After 2 clean years or so, my D600 finally started to show a few spots. Even though I have a fairly fancy sensor cleaning kit, I decided to leave it in the box and write to Nikon instead. I took a shot of a blue sky which showed all my spots, sent it on to Nikon, and within a day I received a call from someone in Customer Service who could not have been nicer. She informed me that, rather than cleaning the sensor, they decided to replace the camera with a D610. I had heard of many hogs getting a new camera, but that was a couple of years ago, so I figured I was too late for that windfall. So I packed up and sent my D600 on Monday. They got it in Melville on Tuesday, took a day to run it through the system, and sent the replacement out yesterday (Thursday). The Big Brown Truck pulled up today, Friday, and there it was. Start to finish, only one week of time to make the transfer. I think that's excellent Customer Service on Nikon's part and solidified my loyalty to the brand. I'll stick with Nikon until I can't push the shutter release anymore. Thanks Nikon!!

Once cleaned, I suspect that someone will be able to buy your D600 as "Refurbished", for quite a savings.

Its a GREAT way to back your products and live up to your mistakes, I applaud them.
But you will notice you got no new warranty card with the replacement body. Just so you are aware.

Someone will get an excellent camera! The spots were minimal, were dust rather than oil, and took 2 years to show up.

And that is how manufactures should handle their issues. Kudos to Nikon for their treatment of their deservedly loyal customers. Mercedes Benz and other car manufacturers could (and should) take a lesson from them.

What is the shutter count on your replacement D610? It is most likely also a refurbished camera.

Seen a Refurb D600 on Nikons site recently?
They are not refurbing the D600's for resale, they are donating them to charities and photo schools around the world, and removing the serial numbers. I have had two in the store for cleaning this year.

Nikons D610 replacements for the D600 are all brand new bodies, not used OR refurbs.

Sorry, but you're quite wrong about the warranty. I got a full one year new-camera warranty with the new D610.

That's good, and new. Previously they had been removing the warranty slip on those replacements.

I'm happy about the warranty. And I never thought I would dispute the Montanna Shooter on the Hog!!

Not without a new mirror box and likely not then!

You infer Nikon is stupid!

I've only seen two D600s. I asked each of them why they didn't send it in to Nikon for replacement. They said their cameras were just fine. One of the two got downright angry with me, just for suggesting to turn in the camera.
