Given a name like 'Nagy' I'd have thought that most well-read people could guess your ancestry. My oldest and dearest friend, Miklós Haas, now Hayes (his father got tired of people asking for Doctor 'Ass)was born in '51 but his father Gyorgi ("George", for non-Hungarian-speakers) had left in the wave before your father: '48.
Hungarian is however one of life's more opaque languages, along with Maltese (Malti), Tibetan (Bodhi) and Basque (Euskadia, I think, in Basque)...

Only the vocabulary is difficult in Hungarian, since its grammar and spelling follow strict rules with very few exceptions. The vocabulary, on the other hand, has far fewer words of Latin origin than Germanic languages, and of course the Romance ones. The basic words belong to the Fino-Ugric group, of which only Finnish and Hungarian survive.
Don't expect everyone to be well read enough to recognize a Hungarian name. You would be shocked at the number of people who act puzzled when they first hear or see my name. To me, it is like being at a loss about the origin of the name Sikorski.
Scared to death to comment but I do have a good one but like I said; not sure how the moods are tonight.

Let it fly. You will find it liberating. I have not been upset by any retaliatory comments this thread caused, and some have been caustic.
Oh, PNagy, it has nothing to do with you. It was an earlier post. I am not familiar with this site and sometimes my post may be after the fact. I was one of the trouble makers last night; just changed my name to protect my identity but it didn't do any good. I must be a sucker for punishment tonight. Perhaps I should go on to bed.
It's a little on the dark side isn't it ? lol

Now you've really got me guessing. Live long and prosper.

Ok, help me out here please. I went to the photograph and posted a comment. I had permission first. Why is my comment on this page? Is it because it is a continuing conversation and if I am to comment I have to be quick?
Ok, Ward. What is LMAO mean? I am a Grandma but I do have children and do text.
