UHH-ers are capable of butchering written language so badly I wonder if they ever sat in a school for a day, let alone 12 years of public education followed by at least some college. Is it really so hard to remember the spelling of something we use every day, like "lens?" It seems at least a third of the geniuses here think it is a "lense," whatever that is. Other speak of "to" much of something, like "to" much post processing. "To" indicates direction or motion toward a destination. If it is so hard for you to remember, try to think of the correct version, "too," as having a surfeit of something. Accordingly, there is a surfeit of "o's" in the word "too."

Most shocking of all is the number of people who talk "loosing" something, when they appear to have meant "losing" it. "Be careful," they may warn us, "before to much noise reduction also causes you to loose sharpness." The word "loose" indicates the opposite of tight, not the concept of being deprived of something, or to cease to have something.

These are only three of the egregious errors I see every day. It does not take a genius to learn such simple rules of written language. I managed to learn it as a second language. This site represents the profession, art, and the hobby of photography. It should be graced with language that reveals a level of professionalism and education. Please buy yourself a book on English grammar and spelling.

If anyone wants to tear at me for having posted this, go right a head. Instead of having to here you I will only red what you rite. I don't have that much too loose.

For the record I agree with you. It's just not that hard to use correct spelling to express yourself.

Why sweat the small stuff? This is a photo forum not a spelling class. I strive to write correctly but it isn't an issue to me, and many others on this forum, when individuals do not display the same education as myself. This topic has been beat to death in the past and frankly I believe it shows the intolerance of some towards others and needs to be put to bed.

Why don't you take that yuppie attitude and go to a more professional website. 90% of people here are not professinal or college educated. So if you think you are so much better than most people here, MOVE ON. You and your attitude will not be missed, trust me.

be kind ! if it was a perfect world, everyone would know and use proper english and gramar. In that same world supermodels would find middle aged chubby photographers iresistable! we do not live in this perfect world. i am guilty of typos, mispellings, and gramatical crimes against english my self. The trouble is proper writing skills are a use it or lose it skil. When I was employed in a carear that required daily use of written language skills, my spelling gramar and puncuation were much better than they are now Remember some people went to high school in beverly hills others in downtown detroit. the quality level of peoples education are differnt. a spell check function on this site would be nice. thanks to texting and use of social media, schools are starting not to teach cursive writing, or emphasize spelling anymore.

I also see pnagy's side of it too. a lot of misspellings, bad gramar, improper punctuiation makes the writer look like an idiot. You could be Albert Einstein but if you write like larry the cable guy, no one will take you seriously! Best bet is don't sweat the small stuff. If it isn't about life, death, or where you are going to spend eternity, it is all small stuff.

This is laughable.

1.) How do you know what the level of education hog members have or not?

Answer; you don't.

2.) Does a person have to be college educated to write with proper spelling?

Answer: Of course not.

3.) The OP never said that he was "better" than anyone. He merely said that using proper spelling isn't that difficult.

Answer: He's correct.

Soo....it's intolerant to voice an opinion on the "chit chat" area but you voiced your opinion letting us know that?

You say don't sweat the small stuff yet you took the time to let the OP know that he shouldn't sweat the small stuff?

Hmmm....

I'm not going to get into a UHH pissing contest with you or anyone else on this forum....it is not worth my time or effort. However, if you read my post I asked "why sweat the small stuff?" I didn't say he/she shouldn't sweat it but I am at a loss for words to come up with an answer myself as to why we believe or assume everyone should act, live, speak, write, etc. exactly like ourselves. Writing and expressing one's self is extremely difficult to many. Our written language is confusing to a lot of people and the correct use of "here", "hear", "too", "to", "two", "their", "there", and "they're" cannot be comprehended by some. This country is far behind the curve on literacy and for some, just writing their name is a real accomplishment. Again, I say this is a photo forum and there are those here that seem to live and thrive on confrontation. It is not worth my time to enter into those debates.

lmao... or sometimes the poster is replying on their cell phone/tablets and we all know auto correct can be a throne in ones side, so to speak.

Shhh...... I have a college education, guess I'm one of the lowly 10% of UHHers that do (somehow I have I strong feeling that statistic was pulled out of someone's butt).

Bingo for me. I usually surf on my IPad and it is aggressive on auto-correct. Embarrassing sometimes when I don't catch it soon enough to correct.

I agree that everyone should strive to use proper words but context, to me anyway, dictates how important it is. Not important to me on this forum. What is more difficult to read is when there is little or punctuation or capitalization. No biggee to me. I prefer to pet the sweaty things rather than sweat the petty things.
