Thanks, I'll look into these adapters. I'll wait to see what Canon's mirror-less M5 looks like tomorrow. It seems that I'll need an adapter even with the M5 hence there'll be no particular benefit to stay with it. Full lens functionality is a big factor.

Yep. I have 6 Nikon lenses, plus 2 Minolta, and 2 Canon. No adapters... building a native Micro 4/3 system. I tested a SpeedBooster and loved it, but not with the lenses I have.

On the other hand, some people think his shit is good shit most of the time! Hopefully we are not taking this discussion into an Attic quality direction....,

Bill usually responds with good information and a respectful manner.

Really??? I seriously doubt that Nikon has sold even two, let alone 5, of their mirrorless bodies, and 13 lenses to go with those 5 is a bit of a stretch. Now I can't document those numbers, but what's your source?

Not dead yet, but gasping for buyers!!! So what's the deal with "facts" to support statements?

The info about dead Nikon 1 is, unfortunately, probably insider info. It came from several sites, one of which is listed above. Tony Northrup seems to have mentioned it recently, as well.

You know how these things work, right? Companies say nothing until the inventory is depleted. A discontinued item stays in the catalog until then. Then they quietly list the item as discontinued.

I can make the statement simply on the basis that I felt you were not expressing your normal and well balanced perspective from reading what you wrote. It may have not been what you intended, but my interpretation of what you actually wrote causeed me to react and respond.

Honestly, I think you are one of the more credible people to look at this new product and to let us know whether or not it has any real value.

Main point is, we haven't seen it yet, and we're too focused on opinion rather than real details. For myself, sure I'm a Canon user, but I don't have a horse in this race, I don't want a mirror less camera at this point. I have no idea whether this will be competitive or not, and if not then I'll add my voice that Canon isn't addressing this part of the market adequately.

Just let's not get carried away yet until we have details. I did prod you a little, but don't we need your usual well informed balance here?

Fair enough. It's what I get for NOT answering on the computer instead of the phone.

Looking forward to the news from the show! Much is on the line for the INDUSTRY this year, more so than usual.

Yep! I think we agree.

After reading five pages of this, all I have to say is...I can't wait for Monday's announcement of the EM1ii. I'd take it any day of the week over a new canon m5...even if I owned canon lenses.

As you should if that is your specific preference. At one level it is interesting to watch all of this play out when I have no personal interest in the game.

Since I'm OK with my current choices, and will watch what happens as the games play out, I'm quite impressed with the level of passion that some people display.

They're only cameras, and as one of our members says: "Why worry about life, it's not permanent!"

I asked a couple of weeks ago about Canon's full frame mirror-less body plans. The consensus among UHH folks was that Canon will not have a FF body soon but will come up with an ASP-C model in the next few days. So, here's my question - is it worth waiting for the Canon system (body and lenses since my L lenses may not work well with the mirror-less) or should I move to a Fuji, Olympus, etc system?

Thanks, Sam

In my opinion, both Canon and Nikon have botched the MILC game. They are too little, too late. I went with Sony, but Fuji also has an aps-c sensor. Both are excellent. The Sony focus system is far better than anyone else's. I don't like the Olympus. Tried one, but the sensor is smaller and I can't print 20x30 with any amount of cropping.

And since you haven't yet seen the new Canon model why is your opinion important? The new Canon may be good, or it may be crap, but your opinion is based on yesterday's news. Pay attention, get a life, and deal with facts!

Jeez, can't somebody on UHH actually deal with evidence and factual reality? Sorry to react strongly, but I'm not seeing much balanced analysis here.

Sony, Olympus, Fuji or others may well be the best approach, but until we have some detail and independent analysis how do we know? So far the Canon mirror less products have been way sub standard, and it is a market they need to do better in.

We are currently going through one of the worst election processes that we have ever seen in the US. Neither side can field a competent candidate, at least in many people's opinions. Can't we do better than that on UHH?

I own a Canon lense and I probably will sell it to start saving for the new E-M1ii and either the Panasonic or Olympus 7-14mm.

I'm considering a Laowa 7.5mm f2 rectilinear now instead of the 7-14mm. It was just announced the other day and is supposed to be available early next year. Can't wait to hear more details and reveiws on it. Love the fact that it can accept filters.

Canon has announced the M5 mirrorless, which I think for the first time features an electronic viewfinder. Not full frame, but that isn't a surprise (nor is it really necessary for a camera intended to be more compact and portable). It's APS-C (1.6X), 24MP with Dual Pixel CMOS AF and up to 9 frames per second stills, full HD video at up to 60 fps.

Besides EF-M lenses, including new 15-45mm and 18-150mm announced along with the M5, there's also an adapter available to allow use of your EF and EF-S lenses on the camera.

Might be worth checking out.
