Final Cut X is the most interesting due to its support industry. Final Cut X has open standards from which has sprung a whole industry of plug-in companies supporting the platform in such a way that million dollar effects once the purview of major effects houses can now be accomplished in Final Cut for the price of a $30 plugin. It is a brave new world as the technological convergence in digital cinema reaches fruition.

I downloaded Da Vinci Resolve about a uear ago and couldn't figure it out. It came with a thousand page pdf manual. Way too complicated for me. A totally different approach to editing than any other package I have used.

Avid Media Composer is pretty much in a class of it's own price and quality wise. Then there is Final Cut Pro, and Adobe Premiere. And after that there are the various consumer oriented applications, and Last, iMovie.

Actually there are about 40 commercial NLEs and another 30 that are freeware, shareware or open source.

iMovie worked great when I was using Aperture. However, when I switched to LR, I can not import still clips into iMovie. For me, this makes it unusable.

You absolutely can import clips into iMovie. I export to desktop, then slide them into iMovie.
