For those of you that do video, what editing software do you like? I'm looking for software that is compatible with Apple.

You would be hard pressed to find one that is much better than iMovie, there is also Final Cut Pro which is a more professional and a much steeper learning curve. I use iMovie a lot and like jethro779 said, its free with your Mac.

The current iMovie is not as simple as the original version 6 and looks more like Final Cut. Neither affords professional looking work product, but for pasting clips of family or casual stuff it works. The hard part for me was appending audio in a coordinating way, like getting the last word to end as grandma was closing her mouth.

I like Power Director, but not sure if it works with Apple. You can lay down as many audio and video tracks as you want and switch from one to the other. Lots of other little goodies in this program too.

iMovie worked great when I was using Aperture. However, when I switched to LR, I can not import still clips into iMovie. For me, this makes it unusable.

So nice of everyone to answer. I have iMovie on my computer and in fact used it several months ago. I don't know what I was expecting but I did not find the software to be intuitive- it was a struggle to me to figure out how to get a simple movie put together. Having had that experience I'm not too anxious to go back to it. I was hoping that there might be something better(?) out there. I am fairly comfortable with photo editing software but video is a different world.

Take a look at Adobe Premiere Elements 14. B&H has a $55 sale which ends today. I believe you can download trial version and then buy it only if you like it. That's what i did a few months ago.

iMovie and Final Cut Pro X and Adobe Premiere. I'm partial to Final Cut. My wife likes Premiere. We all use iMovie. (Twin teen seniors still at home).

For me, the best is Adobe Premiere Pro. I have the CS6 suite and saw no reason to upgrade to CC. Like Photoshop, Premiere Pro has a ton of features including, zooming in on the frame, changing the lighting, tint, contrast and saturation, etc., slow motion, titles, spotlights, transitions like the classic film dissolves and fades, and special effects like turning color into black and white, turning the video into a colored pencil sketch animation, etc. There are unlimited video and audio tracks. If you also have Adobe Audition for audio editing, you can non destructive edit any audio tracks on the same time line as the video within Premiere Pro. If you use a separate audio recorder, you can sync your recorder audio files to the audio/video track from your camera on the timeline and then mute the camera audio for the final rendering, to get just the better audio from the separate recorder, perfectly synced to your video. Just as Photoshop is the best and most featured filled still picture editor, I think Adobe Premiere when paired with Adobe Audition is the best and most feature filled video editing package you can get.

Bob- I have heard many speak highly of Adobe Premiere Pro. I think it is beyond my purse and I know it's beyond my expertise but still... :)

It has a learning curve, but once you get to working with it, it's not hard to figure out how things work.
There's a lot of help available on the website Muvipix.
There are some free items on the site, the rest you have to pay for. The price is for 2 months, and in that time you can download as much as you like from the stuff that is included in your subscription. So rather than keeping the subscription running, I buy two months once a year or so.

One of the things I learned from that website, is how to use a photo of a bookcover and make it open to show page 1, then flip that page and show the next!
