The EVF vs the OVF is a complaint to those who are not accustomed to it. However, one Sony mirrorless owner told me it is easy to overcome using the EVF.

The Sony EVF is extremely easy to get used to.

Thanks. They're pretty good, I agree. Went to see Gilmour with Rick Wright et al back in 2006 in Oakland which was pretty cool. Can't make tonight's show, but I'm those that can will enjoy it.

If you want less weight, full-frame and a Canon product I would highly recommend the 6D. It is much lighter and a little bit smaller than the 5D3, cheap (about to get much cheaper when the 6D2 comes out) and the sensor is terrific.

I have both 6D and 5D3 and the 6D is by far the better body for travel. As for Sony, once you add an autofocus Canon adapter, the battery grip and an extra battery (A7 series have terrible battery life) you would lose any size and weight advantage over a 6D, and even Canon's most basic full-frame AF will be better than Sony using a third party adapter to focus a Canon lens.

Yup that's what I read. Either way I'm sure the af will be a dog like their other mirrorless solutions. It'll be a huge shock if it actually performs well.

Canon EOS M5 Coming Before Photokina [CR3]

By Canon Rumors | August 31, 2016 | Canon DSLR Rumors

We’re told that we’re going to see the Canon EOS M5 announced before Photokina.

Canon EOS M5 known specifications:

24.2mp (80D sensor or some variant, we’re 90% sure on this)
Built-in electronic viewfinder
A new AF system (Could be the best new feature of the EOS M line)
A more classical camera design, more in line with Fuji or Olympus
EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM coming alongside the new body
September 15, 2016 announcement (We’re 90% sure on this)

Once we hear more, we’ll pass it on.

Since Hasselblad released its X1D medium format mirrorless it seems both Canon and Nikon may be working on similar products as the Hasselblad pricing is set to appeal to high end users of their products. Whether these projects come to anything remains to be seen, if in fact they are more than just normal evaluations these manufacturers regularly make.

I think that Canon and Nikon are getting the hint that mirrorless is the way to go. I'm just surprised that Hasselblad figured it out before they did. Hasselblad's mirrorless is closer to the size and weight of both Canon's and Nikon full frames. The only thing preventing Hasselblad from selling more of their mirrorless over Canon and Nikon is the cost.

Sam, Let me first say that large corporations primary goal is to make money for there stockholders, and they are very critical and ruthless in this regard. If we look at photos that are being printed by labs we find that 39% come from cell phones, 31% from DSLR, 25% from point & shoot, and 3% from mirrorless. If we look at camera sales in total we find that 42% are Canon, 31% are Nikon, 11% are Sony, 9% are Fuji, and 7% all others. The numbers basically tell the board room leaders that mirrorless sales are significant, but relatively small. Remember that a lot of the Sony, Fuji, other sales could be point and shoot. The number of overall sales of cameras has been going down in recent years with more and more people using cell phones. Yes, enthusiasts will always be using a camera of sorts, but you can buy some amazing DSLRs in the $400-600 range, while mirrorless can cost as much or more than a DSLR with the current limited choice of lenses and limited battery life. So in my opinion I see Canon and Nikon to continue on the fringes of the mirrorless market in the near term because of the comparatively lower demand. We'll see.

Do you actually think the ability to choice from over 80 lenses is a "limited choice of lenses"? And I know of no 35 mm equivalent lense that is even close to the same heavy weight as the 35 mm lense. Both Canon's and Nikon's 600 mm f4 prime lenses are considerably heavier than the Olympus 300 mm f4 (equivalent to the 600 mm f4 for full frame). And although 39% of photos being printed are from cellphones, over 95% of the pictures being taken in the world are by cellphones. Most are never printed and just go straight out over the internet. If full frame cameras were making an impact anymore, the majority of the prints would be from DSLRs - and they aren't. The sales of prints is actually reflecting the direction of new sales in cameras if one looks at the data properly. And that data indicates there are still a lot of DSLRs out there being used that just haven't been replaced by the newer, smaller, lighter, and less costly mirrorless systems and cellphones yet. Does the 25% print volume from point and shoots actually reflect the under 10% sales (probably closer to under 5%)? And although you have given the break down of prints, the fact that print sales have dropped so much is due to the direct sending of image on the internet. Wal Mart use to develop and print film on site. And now all film is off site and they print only what is digitally submitted. There is less and less call by the general public for prints anymore.

Sounds intriguing. But still not FF but perhaps going in the right direction for mirror-less.
