Canon EOS 5D Opinion Poll

I would like hear from anyone who is thinking of, or especially those who have already taken the plunge, and upgraded their "Canon 5D Mark II" to the "Canon 5D Mark III".
Do you feel that, or have experienced wether the upgrade is worth the extra $1,000 or so?
I have the 5D Mark II, but without actually trying the 5D Mark III, I have no way of knowing the answer to this quandary.
Any thoughts from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards to all,
Mwendell

I have thought about it, but am going to hold off for a while. I understand there has been some issues with light leaks in some of the bodies and I honestly don't know if the improved focus features are worth the bucks. I have not had to opportunity to even see one yet.

Mwendell,

I got my 5D MKII towards the end of last year & love it. I bought the MK II because I was doing more wide angle work & didn't want to have to deal the crop factor anymore. Shortly afterwards, Canon announced the introduction of the MK III.

To be honest, I don't think I could justify the price differential for the newer model. Some of the upgraded features are nice but not for that much money, IMHO. I would just as soon take the extra money & buy new glass. If anything, I might consider trading in my 50D for a 7D body.

All that said, if I was using an APS-C sensor Canon DSLR, had a decent supply of Canon L glass & wanted to make the jump to full frame, the MK III would be tempting. That's assuming one has the coin to spare.

Just my $0.02.

PD

Only you can decide if having a better focusing system and noticably sharper video quality is worth 1000.00 to you.

I don't have a problem with my 5DII focusing so to me...I wouldn't do it but I know others who complain to high heaven about how they can't get focus.

I have a 5DII and a 7D that I purchased last November and that were upgrades from a 5D and 50D. To me the 5DIII represents an evolutionary step that I may look at down the road since I don't normally buy at the beginning of a product cycle. If the advanced focusing on the Mark III is anything like the 7D I would hesitate since I have yet to warm up to that system. I do like the control layout on the Mark III which is like the 7D.

From a Mark II to a Mark III. Worth it to me. If you want one don't worry about the money. Just do it and enjoy the life. I would do it again with no hesitation.

Had an opportunity to try it out for 5 minutes or so. A friend bought the 5Diii, with a 300mm f2.8Lii; attached a 580 EXii . It was mounted on a tripod... have to admit the focus system is amazing and the pictures were impeccably clear. Over $11,000 worth of equipment. At first I thought I was in heaven after 5 minutes of shooting, all of these pictures were tack sharp. The birds being shot were behind lush dark vegetation, we were in the sun, the pictures were truly amazing. I took same pictures with a 7D with a 70-300mmL and a 430exii, his pictures were clearly better
I am not sure if I would buy the camera yet...I am happy with the 7D but I would buy the 300mm 2.8L ii lens!
