I have driven on the bridge as well. My issue isn't whether he took the shot or not.

He said:

So was he in SF? And if he was, why post a picture from the internet?

Thank you for getting this back on track.

It seems to come down to a compulsion (there is no need) to respond to every person with whom we have had previous disagreements. That's where the train usually runs off the track. Objectivity has already been lost before the response is posted.

It would be better for all if we took a deep breath and questioned our own motivation for responding. Maybe we would realize it is often better to not respond at all or at least to take the high road - there is less traffic.

There is room here for a few class clowns. Our lives are richer for their presence.
Thank you for getting this back on track. br br I... (show quote)

Quite right Scotty! And actually I have never had disagreements with minniev, only a slight misunderstanding once with
Linda, (the "stuff happens but" sort of thing), but I think we got that straightened out immediately, and no direct disagreements
with tdekaney either for that matter.
Speaking in general terms therefore,to repeat the general principle:
No one is forcing anyone else to come to this forum or any other section of it.

But to set limits on truth and honesty is not the right of anyone, because by the definition of both words,
neither can be watered down with qualifiers, and to dictate how anyone else should think or
express him/herself with labels such as "mean, cruel" etc. hasn't one darned thing to do with photography.

It was the hope of the manager of this section to attract a higher level of appreciation of the arts, and a higher level
of intelligence in behavior than to be sniping at other members with labels or personal petty problems of their own.
No way can I therefore let minniev off the hook for carrying on about her problems with another member here. It's
her own problem, but unfortunately it tells us more than I personally want to know about her personal opinions,
how they may affect her behavior here, or what her real knowledge of photography may be, since she puts so many
pics up for critique. There is more than one way on this section that we need to look at truth and honesty...and that
is eventually to .....confront ourselves!!!

As for the comment by tdekaney, I know nothing about this character at all, but note that he is not a visitor here, or
any other part of the forum that I know of, and only shows up to harass one of our members, as that seems to be his
focus in life. Peculiar, abnormal behavior, with peculiar ideas evidently, a sort of "barnacle" on somoneone else's life,
but easily ignored ....as deserved!

Why don't you ask him - preferably via PM. It's off topic here.

So where's the fun of clicking in anymore to a sub-forum that has deteriorated to personalities rather
than photography or the arts in general?

Humor and honesty are seldom companions.

A minister, a priest and a rabbi walked into a ... One more word and I will offend someone but if I don't there is no joke.

A politically incorrect and lighthearted forum is a lot more fun.

Proof that we can't please all the people all the time maybe. Therefore, verily I say unto "you-all", it is probably
better to sin against a few by offending them, even though it's their own fault for being blind to happiness, than
to allow the few to cast a dark cloud over all the rest of the earth with their restrictions to our essential happiness?
If so, I'll drink to that sir,..... yep, in honest faith that in vino ist das veritas...

Funny is only funny when everyone laughs, and there's more to this 'joke' that meets the eye in a negative way which has no place here. S-

When everyone laughs? That is an impossible standard. Can you think of a single humorist or comedian with universal appeal? The best are bound to offend someone.

For those that need to have the "joke" explained to them, Rob was poking fun at himself and his earlier comments about seeing too much orange in some images. You only need to look here to find the stock image he used. The Saint Patrick's Day treatment he gave it was the joke.

The negativity in the thread did not originate with him. It came from others who could have simply moved on without comment.

You ought to direct your comments at his trolls. Rob does not deserve a fatwa.

Rob deserves what he gets. I can not believe that you keep defending him. The only evidence you need is to look at his threads he starts. He talks about himself in the third person. Now Google what it means

I was invited in the early days to take a look at this forum. I liked what I saw and still like it. I do get it when people comment on any of my postings as well as other post. I take everyone's comments with a grain of salt. Whether it be a positive or negative with or without sarcasm. In a forum that has members from all over the world, some one is always going to step on someone toes. I generally know what to expect from most people in this forum, and how they will respond.
I believe the overall goal of this section is still being achieved. I was debating whether to even post my thoughts, since I am here for the photography. If I was looking to duke it out with everyone I would be posting in the Attic. Lol

Nobody deserves to be treated that way. Nothing you have said excuses your behavior or anyone's relentless trolling of Rob.

Your post says more about you than it does about Rob.

You should try to make a positive contribution to the conversation and to the forum in general. Let's see if you can.

Scotty,
A few weeks ago my finger was accidentally caught in a the closing aluminum storm door and suffered focal hemorrhage at its base. Since then the spot of hemorrhage has moved, with normal rate oh growth of the nail, from its base toward the tip. I thought you might be interested in the manner in which this phenomenon can be used accurately to gauge the rate of growth of the nail.
Do you see, or can you see, Scotty, that this is a joke? It is a joke at which some of our viewers are laughing, in spite of its inherent vulgarity. And some will simply judge it vulgar and judge me thoughtless for having posted it. And I am sure that some, recognizing your and my history of mutual antipathy, will see clearly that this is absolutely and pointedly intended to be a joke ON you, specifically, and recognizing that, are laughing at you, not at "the joke".
So to pretend that a joke is " just a joke" is an iananity unworthy even, I would think, of you.

And so, in spite of the self-righteous huffing/puffing this will likely elicit from you, you should begin to perceive the different sorts of responses that different sorts of jokes can be expected to engender. Some are truly meant for shared good humor within a compatible community of folk of like spirit....and the intent of others is to direct less-than-congenial humor pointedly and with less-than-benign effect at a specific target. This latter sort have no place among a community of communally supportive friends.

With personal regards, and a joke...of a pointedly specific sort....

...get it?

Dave

It is more likely that you were embarrassed when you perceived that the Golden Gate joke was on you.

I guess in your case it exposed your propensity for jumping to conclusions and providing a negative comment directed towards someone you may not like. That is trolling.

This is not about me. This is about using humor to make a point. Just because you did not recognize that it was a joke until you committed yourself to a critique does not make it Rob's fault. You should have been more circumspect and considered the source. You would have been better off ignoring the thread altogether.

It's also about respectful posting. You might work on that as well.
