It is a fine image, great impact and energy. Your great eye for composition and excellent processing are sure on display with this one.

Though I really like it, I have a few questions - Should the rain effect be on her arms and shirt? (Maybe the rain effect is more art than any effort at realism, which is perfectly acceptable). Is the bright area lost or did you go overbright with it on purpose? Is the slight blur motion blur or something you added as a part of processing?

Thank you Minnie !!! As I had told jim quist, she was under a canopy and felt that the rain should not be on her because electronics & water don't mix very well. Yes, I could have had raind drops on her but thought to have a more realistic look and feel, I should not have them there.

I'm not sure what you are asking about the bright area. If you are referring to her mouth/mic area. That area was backlit from the sun as it was in the early evening.

The slight blur is due to shooting at a shutter speed of 125 @300mm when I should have been shooting a faster shutter speed. I hope this sums it up. Memory a little shot as this was taken May of 2014. Sometimes I forget yesterday, let alone to remember tomorrow. Someone told me once "I forgot to remember to forget".

With Minnie's and jim quist's questions about rain, I now have a question, Dave:

though you said in the opening it was "rain," I quickly forgot that - lol - and my impression was more of it being a non-specific element than a literal representation. For me, the diagonal "lines" add motion, energy, contrast, visual interest. Can you speak more about your ideas in this area? Thanks so much.

Thanks Linda for inquiring about this image which was a spur of the moment to post process it. The rain was an after thought while I was working through it. With me that happens often. I'll start an image and before I'm finished another idea pops up. Thats just my thinking process. I even walk that way. No fast pace at all, just a stroll.

The rain is not actually rain. Three years ago as always, I was doing some photography experimenting. I wanted to simulate some rain in a photo. So, in my back yard I go with a garden hose and sprinkler. As in most cases, not having a subject, I used myself. I had an umbrella with a hole in it and set everything up to simulate rain, me, holding an umbrella, with a big hole in it. I titled that image 'Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head'. Anyway, while doing that, I also took shots of the water simulated rain to save for an event such as 'Kentucky Rain'. The direction of flow was a personal choice. I could have had the simulated rain going any direction. So again, the rain was an after thought. Thanks for asking and here is the color original without the simulation so you and others will have a better understanding? Also, the 'Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head' experiment. I hope this answers your questions of concern?

Thanks Linda for inquiring about this image which ... (show quote)

Thanks so much! I remember your mentioning another time about how sometimes during the process of creation, a new idea pops in.

I greatly appreciate your willingness to discuss your steps, and to share the originals, Dave. It makes for a much richer experience here IMO. I'd like to see more folks ask - and answer - these kinds of queries
