All the aftermarket batteries are cheap enough and many come with a charger. So try them for yourself the you will know first hand instead of trying to decipher everyone's personal opinions.

Wasabi is something that goes with sushi. I only use OEM equipment.

I worry if something were to go wrong, manufacturers may not honer warranty or repair item in question. Happened to me with a Volvo I once owned, it caught fire and was totaled due to a 3rd party radio short circuit, (I know most car radios are 3rd party) the first thing the arson quad (hired by Insurance co.) wanted to know, was the radio factory installed. Which it was....still it took almost a year to collect my insurance check. Since then, if possible...OEM all the way with everything.

I prefer the Wasabi chargers for both ENEL 14 and 15, they are more compact, faster, and have an indicator light that goes from red to green. The Nikon chargers work fine, but are larger and a bit clumsy -- they are in a box with seldom used accessories. I have been totally pleased with Wasabi, unlike a couple of other battery brands I have tried. To answer OnDSnap I don't think "behooves" is the word you are looking for "bemused"?, but your thought is clear. I buy Wasabi and use them because they are a lot less expensive, they work just as well, their chargers are smaller and more efficient, but most of all because I don't like the feeling of being ripped off by paying a higher price for the same functionality.

I just happened onto a post a few days back where Wasabi, Watson and Nikon versions of my particular battery were mentioned. If I remember correctly the consensus is that Wasabi and Watson are very good replacements for the Nikon OEM version. I am however a bit confused as to whether the Nikon charger is compatible with the Wasabi battery. I assume that it is because I received a second battery when I purchased my d7100 a couple of years ago made by Power 2000 which I've been charging regularly on my Nikon charger. I'd like to hear some opinions regarding longevity of the Wasabi before going off half-cocked and buying one. I've been alternating my Nikon battery with the Power 2000 battery for the past two years, probably 5000-6000 clicks. The Power 2000 is practically dead and I still get close to 150+ raw images on the original Nikon battery.

I always buy the Wasabi batteries for my Nikon d5100, Sony a6000, Canon sx50, and now my Nikon p610. I can charge them in origional chargers that came with my cameras but I usually charge all the batteries (oem and Wasabi) in the Wasabi chargers. The Wasabi chargers are smaller and seem to charge faster, at least I think they do. I actually never did an actual side by side comparison.

you need to be cautious with Nikon. I use the power 2000 in my d750 and d7200, but I just purchased the d500 and this battery will not work in the d500, something in the firmware. so, if Nikon decides to change the firmware in some of its older cameras, the battery may not work any longer.

It behooves me why one would spend thousands on camera gear only to penny pinch on a third party battery...

Because some manufacturers that make after market battries like Wasabi are better and last longer then OEM one's I my self use them the two original Canon battries I have are starting to fail and my Wasibi's are still going strong as ever.

I would imagine vendors that enjoy their battery sales take great pains to provide a quality product. Lots of camera batteries yet to be sold. It can be safely stated that no one has a perfect QC record.

Common sense applies here: If the battery works in the Nikon camera the Nikon charger will charge the battery. Now it may not charge as fast as the battery mfg charger but it will charge the battery.
I too wonder why after spending $1000 and up for a camera why cheap out on after market batteries. Me like a dummy tried it once, I don't remember the brand, but the battery was half the price of the Nikon battery so i bought two, one failed after about a month, the second followed close behind. The last time for me.
My lady friend is still using batteries I gave her after my D300 died about 4 yrs ago they were purchased with the Camera in 2008.
