Regis, you sure do a fantastic job on these different moon photos. The detail is beyond description. Sharpness is far greater than the one I posted a couple of days ago. I know it is the photographer more than the equipment but I still wonder how much that Canon body may have helped. Either way this deserves many and even more.

I thank you very much, Greg. The Canon 5Dsr (50.6 MB) makes a big difference concerning the quality and detail. However, when
you add on the Canon 100-400 II, the detail is more apparent than I had with my Tamron 150-600.
I used simple contrast and sharpness tools in my Photoshop Elements program to finish off my moon photo.
I may take about 5 hand held shots and I will pick the best one.

Regis, the clarity and no blur, amazing. Jeff

I thank you very much, Jeff. Well, good photo equipment certainly helps me get a
good detailed shot. Our skies here in north Idaho are dark, clear with no or very little humidity
to affect the sharpness of the moon photo.

Super sharp, as they say the early bird gets the worm.

The hardest part of getting this moon shot is getting up at 3:00 am. But luckily, I just
tip-toe into my backyard and aim my camera/lens at the moon. Much easier for me to take
a moon photo than an Osprey shot.

I thank you very much, Mike, for your good comment.

Great image as usual Regis. Love the detail. By the way, thanks for looking at my moon image from a couple of days ago.
Dale

I thank you, Dale, for your good reply. A little bit of contrast and sharpness (photoshop elements) helps to
enhance the moon crater details. Having a powerful Canon 5Dsr camera and Canon 100-400 II lens really
helps to get the good moon shots, etc.

Amazing as always! Wondering whether you might get even better results using tripod (?). Like getting the edges in perfect focus too? Also, is it ever possible to combine/photomerge two of your partial images to get the entire moon in perfect relief?
Sarantis

My personal problem with using a tripod is waiting for the moon image to drift into
my field of view at the right angle to use my spot metering and center focusing
point at different parts of the moon's shadows and topography areas to get the
best contrasted and detailed shots. I do it better and faster shooting the best moon surfaces
by hand so that at least one of my photos comes out looking good.
Many moon photographers will use a tripod to great effect. This is not my method even though
it defies logic. To each his own.
To merge two different partial moon images, in my opinion, will not help and would be extremely difficult
to render. One side of the moon will be brighter and not conducive to good moon crater shadows. So, if
you combine the brighter moon side with the darker and more detailed side, you are back to square one.
I am sure a professional astrophotographer will use special filters to tone down the moon's brightness to
bring out more detail. I don't use filters of any kind whether it is photographing the moon or of wildlife.

I appreciate your good comments, Sarantis. I know my method goes against logic (tripod), but I am happy
with my good results.
