I took this moon photo about 3:00 am this morning from my backyard.
Hand held. I used 560mm.
Canon 5Dsr - Canon 100-400 II - Canon 1.4x III - 1/125 - f/8 - ISO @ 160.
Shutter priority. Spot metering.

Great detail. Don't know how you get such sharpness hand held.

Magic. No, just kidding. A combination of factors: The Canon 5Dsr has an advanced mirror vibration control mechanism.
The Canon 100-400 II has a 4 stop image stabilization.
I use a Barska pistol lens grip (handle) to steady my shot.
The Canon 100-400 II is smaller, lighter and easier to hold than your other 150-600mm lenses.
6 years of hand holding shots has given me a lot of practice.
I thank you very much, ecobin.

Beautiful shot. I do mostly hand held wildlife but doubt I could do that well on the moon. Excellent.

Amazing sharpness. You must have a rock solid grip. To hold that long a lens at 160th is simply astounding. Congrats. I am insanely jealous.

If you look at my response to 'infocus' thread on this page you will understand how I get good steady moon and wildlife shots.
I am just an average guy at 72 with more than 6 years of hand held photos and 50+ years of taking photos.
I thank you very much, boberic, for your good comment.

An excellent moon shot! I've been trying to accomplish this result, but nowhere close to yours yet. May I ask how much this was cropped?

80% + or - was cropped. I can get a lot of cropping done with my Canon 5Dsr 50.6 mp camera and still get excellent detail. of course, the higher MP cameras will get more moon detail.
Original image = 4.56 MB Could have been more than 25 MB if there wasn't a lot of black space (night sky).
Cropped image = 400 KB.
