Most photo software programs have a softening filter that you can use. Some programs will soften the entire photo while others can also soften localized areas of the photo. There are free programs, and there are retail software programs that you can purchase. It depends on you and your needs as to which program will be best suited for you.

Bruce, how did you get the black background in your avatar? It's very striking with the flower...

I used the magic eraser and then used the fill bucket. But there are several ways of doing it depending on your software. Some techniques are faster then others. I have several freebie software programs and sometimes I use more then one software because one may have a tool that the other free software doesn't have but it is free. I don't do volume work so I can take my time. At times I do a quick and dirty job just to get it finished. I want to go back and redo some old photos that I had finished in a hurry. I am still in the learning process. My better-half is also learning.

Easiest way. Shoot with black bg isolating flower. Get it as good as you can in the camera.
