I have been snapping photos for years, and now am starting to charge for my work, but I need a program to help me make a soft effect on these photos.

This one I shot of my nephew and it looks ok here, but when I print it off the skin color is bright red and looks yucky. I need HELP!!!!

Most photo software programs have a softening filter that you can use. Some programs will soften the entire photo while others can also soften localized areas of the photo. There are free programs, and there are retail software programs that you can purchase. It depends on you and your needs as to which program will be best suited for you.

The program I used is Focal Point by OnOne Software. It's part of a Suite called PerfectPhoto.

http://www.ononesoftware.com/products/suite/ All OnOne software can be used as stand alone programs but work great as Plug-ins for Adobe Photoshop Elements, Photoshop CS5 & Adobe Lightroom 3.

Just to update this info Amazon is selling Elements 9 for 79.95 with a $20 mail-in rebate to bring it down to $59.95.

If you are going to start charging for your work... That makes you a pro. You will need to invest in Photoshop and/or Lightroom and learn them. If a client wants to blur a photo while he stands over you, you better know what you are doing.... Or at least look like you know. Being adept at post is part of your technique and professional arsenal. Please learn it as fast as you can. It will guarantee your clients come back... And talk in a good way about your abilities. Good luck.

Great shots of this child and some very nice touches by you Bob. I love the soft focus stuff if not overdone.

Not the best edits but here's my go. I use CS5, did a colour correction, upped the exposure a little using levels, did two curves adjustments and then added a slight curves adjustment to give a yellowish cast (vintage look but really toned down) and added a haze to soften the over all image.

I use Focht Creative's Photoshop plugin. Pretty simple. Your printer could be the problem with the reds not printing right. Try sending them to Mpix which is cheap and easy.

Also, when you send your files in to Mpix be printed, the color can be corrected by them as our monitors aren't always in line with what they see when they get them.

I agree with Jaime!! If you are going to start charging for your work you definately need to invest in a GOOD editing program such as Photoshop CS5. If you are going to charge for your work then they deserve the best that you can give them, and that means editing!!!!

I do minor edits. Mostly I do outside photos which I take them perfectly so they hardly need editing.
