If you're 5'10" and want to do commercial modeling you'll have no tats. If your 5-2, you'll only do alternative modeling, and there is as much demand for with tattoos as without.
Give me a beautiful model with tattoos over a fat girl with no tattoos any day!!

Well I think the point was with or without tats...the body we can presume to be the same. The girl beautiful without tattoos is much easier to photograph. You can always body paint a clean skinned girl to look tatty if you need to.

I totally agree . The whole point here is "with" or "without". Plus, a point that seems to have been largely ignored here; those glorious pieces of artwork will become unrecognisable stains in years to come, that's a certainty. "Disfigurement", for want of a better word.

Wait; this isn't justification for photographing tattoo'd women is it? Because if anything, a cock impaling itself on a fence would be a tattoo to be completely painted over for the wedding photographs.

I've been pretty surprised at how many have expressed a strong dislike of tattoos on women. Is that all women or just models?
Personally I think tattoos look beautiful, especially on a beautiful woman. But like all art, there is art that we like and art that we don't.
What's been implied by some is that it doesn't matter the tattoos, that they are not acceptable at all by some. That a woman must be inherently stupid to get a tattoo. My doctor is a womon and has a few tattoos(at least that I can see).
One of my goals is to start shooting Suicide Girls, simply because I love the look! One of my favorite Models is Leah Jung, and would love to shoot her some day!
So what is it that you don't like, or DO like about tattoos on models or women in general. What about on men?
Feel free to post some examples either way.
It's a brave new world out there.

For me, the problem is the haphazard placement of them. There, in some appears to be no strategy. One here one there.

It takes everything away from a beautiful body, just like fake boobs.

Agreed!
A tatoo on a the female body is like a bumper sticker on a Ferrari.
Can't be improved.

Just my opinion.

Or give me a model with no tattoos over a model with tattoos. The body is a temple for the soul not for tattoos.

I'm an old guy and I think this topic can be organized by age. I don't like tattoos and I have never seen a woman look better by having a tattoo.

Next time you see a photo of a nude woman with a tattoo, mentally remove the tattoo and ask yourself: "does she look worse without that tattoo" ?

I like them. They are sexy as hell if done right. A couple of nights ago I sat next to a 24 year old girl that had a lot of tats, and it was difficult to keep my eyes off of her. I'm way too old for her, but I wouldn't mind photographing her. I'd probably need some salt peter to keep things on track though.

The only thing that worries me about tattoos is that they don't look good on old skin. That 24 year old might look sexy as hell now, but when that tattoo is 30 years old on a 54 year old woman, I guarantee it won't look good then.

And then there are the body piercings. I feel revulsion every time I see one.

This has been talked about before and I've given it some thought and come up with this reason. For me it goes back to my days as a policeman; 'respectable' people weren't tattooed, thugs and people looking for trouble were.
tattoos = thug = jail time, simple as that. Now that's good straight thinking

Very narrow minded!!!!!!!!

Whats the matter with fat girls?
It took me a long time to get a good nude of "fat" girl, its not easy even if she has a pretty face. Actually a good tasteful nude is not easy. I have seen a lot of photographers make a beautiful model look like a ugly gutter slut, nude or clothed.

You do know that today's young people are attracted to the tattoos because of their association with gangsta, right? It has morphed culturally into cool simply because it was anti establishment....so it does and forever will have the element of "bad" because it was meant to. Even the non gang stuff...so if you have a nude girl covered with tats standing next to a girl nude with non of them, which would you presume to be "clean and untainted by dangerous living"? That is the look that cannot be undone.

The key word here is presume, this is akin to racial profiling.
Now that being said, I enjoy beautiful Ink work, I don't like the gangsta stuff mainly because of the message.
However I have never & will refused to photograph anyone because of tattoos, but I may not use a tattooed model because the ink would be out of place in the Theme or mood I am trying to set.

It depends. Since I am trying to portray the personality of the model--not just either the lines and curves or eroticism--if the tattoos have significance and meaning for the person then I will shoot her, sometimes with some explanation. If the tattoos are just about a drunken party she went to and now regrets, forget it. (If I really want her otherwise, I will PS the tats out, with her permission.) If the tattoos are simply artwork, I will prefer not to photograph them.

Racial profiling, give it a rest!!! If a cop gets a description that a black person assaulted, robbed or in some other way committed a crime against someone should the cops look to arrest an Asian, Hispanic or a white guy??? I guess the black people who looted some buildings in Cleveland aren't really black.

I do not find the need to have a tatoo on my body. I am not opposed to a small, discrete tat on any person. What really repulses me are those people who find it necessary to cover large areas of their bodies with "so-called art." I prefer to call it "graffiti".
