Over all true. But it is fun to poke the fire.

Wrongy, cut us a break! There is no official camera sponsor.
There are only 12 official Olympic sponsor partners and last I checked, McDonalds only sells burgers!!
Panasonic is the official supplier of electronics but not cameras.
Most photographers are independents using their own gear but get the support of Canon or Nikon professional services at the games if they need it.
I have personally been to 4 events and white lenses have predominated. I'll just assume black lenses are Nikons since I've never seen a Sony, let alone a Pentax, in the hands of a Pro!!

I agree, but does everyone not know that canon is favoured by pros for sports photography? And my L zoom canon lenses are not white, they are beige ..........not sure why they are always referred to as white
I don't want to get into the usual Canon vs Nikon (never to win) debate, but I saw far more Canon lenses than you state. Must've been the angle.

I agree. I own a Canon. But I could give 2 shits what anyone else uses. Good for them.
In the first place, I like the comments made by Clint. The media works with camera and lenses supplied to them and in events such as this promotions from the "big guys" are more than apparent. Ask those photographers if they own the gear they are shooting with and the answer is usually NO.
Once again.........another white supremacy topic!
btw....I own a Canon L serious lens that is black but has the red ring
I missed that but my favorite event during any Olympics is Netflix.

Wasn't the light color lens promoted as absorbing less heat and thus changing the actual size of the lens and the spacing of the elements? Good marketing Idea as well to differentiate from a competitor.
Does the light color work. I would guess in theory at a minimum and likely in reality as well.

Wow a lot of equipment.
I wonder on both sides if it all is used or is a percentage for back up in case of a failure.

Papi, you are incorrect and so was Clint. You may like the answer but it doesn't make it right.
I'll start asking and report back. Keep in mind that for every photographer from a big concern at the finish of the 100 yd dash, there are a 1000 independents that get their credential through publications that they shoot for, mostly virtual publications as there are not many print outfits left.
They ALL own their own equipment.
There is only one pro sports photographer here and that's Mongoose. PM him and ask how much equipment Nikon has given him? I assure you he buys his own cameras and lenses!

Last night, after our female track star took the gold, she walked over near the area where the photographers were stationed.
The cameras followed and you got a great view of the area.
Out of about twenty five cameras mounted on tripods, I was surprised to see only four white lenses.
Black lenses did out populate the white ones but also notice it seemed as though most of the white ones were in the back rows. Sponsorship issue??
