doughboy33, I just purchased a refurbished 6D from Canon to compliment my 7D Mkii, shutter count was 10 when I received it. I love it and find it very nice addition. I was concerned as others have said about not having the bells and whistles, but so far it is performing well. I would not hesitate to buy one. Gary

I like to shoot flowers, birds, Animals, car shows, waterfalls, people, well just about anything. At this time I have 3 lens that will work on the 6D, a 50mm 1.8, sigma 105 macro, and a canon 100-400 mk2. What would the pro's and con's be in getting the 6D. I am not looking to make a living from photography. It's just a hobby to get me off my butt.

If you've sold yourself on the 6D, wait till next year, because there are rumors of a NEW 6D mk 2 coming out.
If nothing else, you'll see a lot of older 6Ds turning up for sale.
Just my 2ยข worth.

Rumours of a 6D mk2 are so long in the tooth it'll probably be a mk3 by the time it gets here. I'd like a FF and keep putting it off awaiting this new model because I do like a bird in flight, a sports shot or an aeroplance etc. and would favour a better autofocus, but I don't necessarily want the bulk of a 5D. A few more years and I'll trade the lot in for mirrorless as hands and arms become less strong.

I just ordered a refurbished 6D from Canon last night! While one comment referred to it as "the bottom of the barrel", many reviews praised it very highly (and I read a lot of reviews) and one even called it "the second-best FF camera there is". It is clearly NOT for someone who requires ultra-fast focusing - that is a given. It does not have a built-in flash - ah, darn - I have never used the built-in flash on my 70D any way. Most of the "drawbacks" are not really things that will be missed by someone who does landscapes, nature shots, portraits, etc. It is clearly not the best choice for fast-action shots like sports and birds-in-flight. But given what it IS and what it DOES, and given that it is $1500 less expensive than some of the other models listed in comments above, it seems like a fantastic camera for my needs, and I am very excited about getting it!

I moved from my first DSLR, a T3i, to the 6D a few years ago and I was bowled over by how clean and smooth the images were. So, in terms of image quality, I think you will be very pleased with the 6D or the 6DII when it comes out.
On the other hand......the focus system, while very good, is more geared toward still subjects and compared to something like the 7DII it is a bit weak for sports and wildlife.

If Im going shoot flowers, or something indoors where I want the best high ISO performance I take my 6D. If I'm going to shoot birds or other moving subjects.....I take the 7DII.

Im not familiar with the 80D but.......like others have said, it is a current generation camera and the difference between it and the 6D may not be worth the money to you.

Maybe.....you best bet would be to rent one and see. Lens rentals.com has em for $66 for 5 days.

sb, good job. Remember that barrel is on a very high self. I used mu 60D to do swim comp for my GD. I first ran into the 6D at a comp where a father was shooting his kid. I shot a race with it. Single point focus with a 70-300 zoom impressed me. A few month later I had a CC promo in hand with a promo of the 6D. Added a BG-E13 grip 24-105 L and an UWA. Other bit and bobs and it's a tight kit!

doughboy33.....the 80D and 6D would be an excellent combination. I own a 6D and a 60D camera and really like the 6D as an all round performer. It has excellent image quality and works well for landscape and city shooting. The cons on the 6D include no pop up flash, no head phone external jack, basic 11 point focus and mediocre burst speed. None of these are a problem since I use the 60D with a 100-400mm lens for sports and I dislike pop up flashes. KEH Camera in Atlanta lists about four 6D camera with prices ranging from $1119-1319. I have found their rating system is fair and somewhat conservative. Hope this information can help you. Best of luck.

I traded a 60D for my 6D. If you want a simple full frame camera for mostly tripod use such as landscapes and city scapes, it's hard to beat for the price. However, I can't describe how much I miss the moveable LCD of the 60D, so I would highly recommend you keep the 80D also. It is probably much better than the 6D for birds and such as I believe the 80D has a better focusing system. The old 60D could make tack-sharp 11x14s with good lenses, so I would guess the 80D would be even better.

I never really understood the negative reviews that the 6D got. I think it was from people that wanted a $1300 1Dx

I do think it sold fairly well

I traded my 6D for a 7dm2. The shutter delay was to much for fast moving birds. The 6D with canon "L" lenses is hard to beat in that price range...

I do. Its a matter of just looking at the work these "know it all" publish. It is usually mediocre even with the "superior" gear they claim to have. That correlates with their POOR knowledge of the craft and the ton of misinformation they post at sites like this one. They critique the focus functions of the 6D yet post TONS of misfocused crap in almost every thread with the gear they claim "superior". Its almost funny.

1149 USD at Canon direct

http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/eos-6d-body-refurbished

I think a better deal than paying FULL RETAIL USED PRICE. And the refurbished comes with the highest class warranty! I do not work for Canon nor do I have a vested interest in the company or revenue flow!

Of all full-frame cameras in Canon's current lineup, the 6D has both the worst AND the best focusing system, depending entirely on your needs. For sports, birds and the like, it is useable, but far from ideal. For portraits, landscape, macro or use with manual focus lenses, it has the best. The 6D's center point remains tied for the most light-sensitive ever in any full-DSLR at -3 EV, which is exceptional and a full stop better than the 5D3 or the new 5DS twins. The 6D also accepts interchangeable focusing screens which make manual focus far more accurate. My 6D has the precision "S" screen, which actually does show correct depth of field with fast lenses, which is meaningless with f/2.8 or f/4 zooms, but essential with f/1.4 and f/1.2 primes and actually makes autofocus photography easier as well as you can tell through the viewfinder if manual correction is required as well as what else beside your focus point is also in acceptable focus.

I own both the 5D3 and the 6D because they are very useful for very different things. If I could only have one it would be the 5D3 because I mainly use an SLR for fast-paced events, but for travel the 6D is usually the one that comes along for the ride.

I'm actually waiting for the new 5D Mark IV, to become available to replace my immaculate 6D. I'm looking forward to a faster frame rate, better sensor with better focusing system. The 6D is a wonderful camera, if your only shooting static objects, even in low light. I'm about to leave on a trip to Glacier National Park, in a few days, and plan on using the 6D for some scenery, and some low light work. After that, my 6D will be sold along with my other older camera bodies to make way for the 5D Mark IV.
