My age is really showing for just realized Nikon 7000 has motor in camera body. Correct? Have lens with motor and 70s body. Ready to upgrade but what body. Was going to get 7000 but now what? Canon made everyone get new lens when they went digital. Now Nikon seems to be doing the? Please bring me up to date as what body to get?

No, you would not hav to get new lenses. Unlike Canon, which changed their mount, Nikon has maintained the "F" mount since it's inception. The AF-S lenses (those with motors) can be used on any Nikon digital body. Likewise the AF lenses (those without motors) can be used on any Nikon digital body but you lose auto-focus. In fact, I use an older (1980s) manual focus lens on my D40.

There are some limitations with the older lenses on newer bodies, such as no auto-focus or no (or limited) metering. You can check the details on Nikon's web site - just look at the specifications for the camera body.

The D7000 will properly operate EVERY AF lens made by Nikon or any aftermarket lensmakers, regardless of whether the lens has an internal AF motor or not (as will your D70s). The D7000 senses the drive needed and uses it.

the same accountants that nearly ruined general motors must be working for Nikon now. the 7000 is the deviding line for af in body. all the pro cameras (d300s,d700,d3,d4,d800) have the motor, all the consumer and entry level do not starting with the d40 and including the d 300,3100 5000,5100 and the new 5200 . Pentax is the only camera company left that you can use almost all of the old glass and not lose functions. they kept the af motor and lens stabalization where it belongs, in the camera body.

As do the D100, D200, D80 and D90. And there is no D5200. At least not yet. And Nikon would be interested in hearing their Prosumer D300s, D700 and D7000 were considered "PRO" bodies. To date Nikons Pro bodies have all been single digit models, although the D800 is pushing that envelope.

Most cameras are great. But, they are out of date before they leave the factory. It's called "Planned obsolescence" Just like new cars. Most camera manufacturers give you a break, and keep the same lens mount. Some are greedy, and squeeze for all they can get. When buying a SLR type make sure that the older model lens will work on the newer model. You might lose auto focus and auto ap.,but you can still do manual.

What tickles me is the M-9 is obsolete when you buy it!

You are saying Nikkor lenses from a manual will work on a digital but won't use any connections? I'm new to digital - used slides and no longer available - so must switch and have little to no idea what you guys are talking about.
