I have observed photographs that were matted and in protective sleeves on display at restaurants that had purchase price attached. Have any Hogs done this and if so I would imagine the restaurant gets a commission if sold, what would be the going rate?
Also if you have done this is it worth it sales wise?

I have not done this with photos (yet) but with other various art mediums and I also use to sell from my frame shop and gallery so I have been on both ends. It is another way to get your art seen which is nice! I have seen commission rates from 20-40% of the price. My rate use to be 25%. In my opinion it is worth it. Just make sure you make something!😃

Thank you, I'll probably check out a couple of restaurants to see what they want. I wanted to see what others had to give back to the restaurant.

Another way I have seen people do it is in hair places for individual owners of hair salons. They will allow ones that they know who do photography to display the art work or photography on the walls in their salons and then the customers that come in to get their hair done might see something that they like and purchase it.

I have seen this done in all sorts of places - libraries, real estate agents - any business with wall space available. I have no idea how successful the photographers are at selling, but it might attract business to the display location.

I have done this in the past with commissions from 0 to 35%. Nice when a restaurant has a dedicated wall to hang photographs on for viewing!

I didn't think about hair salons, I need to check that out.

I have not done this but now I am considering giving it a try. I did do a picture for one of the servers at a restaurant that I frequent. I printed it on 8.5 x 11 glossy and she loved it. She framed it and put it on her mantle. It was a picture of her daughter.

I rarely (if ever??) see anything ever being sold off the walls of restaurants and offices where consigned photos are displayed. I tried this once in an office and figured out it was just an easy and inexpensive way for them to decorate their walls.

My Dentist has an area for local photographers to exhibit and sell their work over about a 3 month period. That way she gets new photos on her walls every few months and her clients get to see new artwork/photos each time they come in. I have been asked to place my travel and underwater photos there in December for a few months. Will have to see how that works out.

I often put two photos every six months in a local charity called Art de Cure which displays photos and art work on the walls in a large medical practice. If an item sells, they get 40% and the artist/photographer gets 60%. There current charity is the diabetes association. An entry fee of $25 for two pieces is required. If a piece sells, you get to put in a replacement which can be the same image or anything else. It's nice to know that every time I sell a piece, some money is going to a good cause.
