I haven't seen this topic discussed, so here goes. I'm curious to your approach when shooting alone. Mainly interested in days shooting away from your home.
What percentage of your shooting days are you by yourself? Do you shoot the inner city alone? What about traveling to foreign countries? What about night photo shoots; city or country? How about hiking and backpacking more than a single day? What precautions do you take, or do you throw caution to the wind? In my case I'm in my 60's but very healthy, although with age comes respect for what the environment could send my way. Thanks for sharing your approach and experiences.

In the city I shoot a .45. In the woods I use either a 30.06 or an Ar15 depending on what I plan on shooting.

Probably hasn't been discussed because what others do has no relevance to what those who can think for themselves do!

95% of the time it's just myself and my cameras. I don't really think about it much, as it's pretty much the way I've always gone out photographing.

Thomas, I shoot everything alone. It doesn't matter where it is. When I travel my wife is with me during the day but I will go out after she goes to bed and before she gets up so I can have unencumbered alone shoot time.
I didn't think photography was a team event! I would NEVER go on a group photo-walk, what a waste of good shoot time that would be.
I'm 64 and still do tough sports and on no medications of any kind including coffee or booze!!!
I've shot in many countries and the only precautions I take are common sense and looking REALLY MEAN! BTW, it only scares away the men, the ladies love it!!!

I would NOT recommend shooting with expensive camera and assorted equipment in certain area's in NYC, Baltimore, Chicago or most other large cities. In some cases having company might not even be in your interest.

I don't go into the city by myself anymore. Philadelphia can be a very unforgiving place if one's not careful or prepared. I've been going into the city for a long time but now it's mostly for specific events.

I get around mostly, weather permitting, on a motorcycle and when I'm on a serious photo safari, the back seat is usually occupied by gear.

When I go on a photo expedition with a friend, we load our gear in the back of my Chevy Sonic hatch back and hit the road.

Long trips to the Delmarva peninsula or the outer banks, we usually take the 2500HD. Camera gear is stored in the back seat and everything else goes in the back of the truck. Up front it's me, my wife and our doggies. The Sonic gets more than double the fuel mileage the truck gets but sometimes the 4 wheel drive comes in real handy.

I do most of my local night sky photography in a large local cemetery. There's no annoying light there and there are lots of large clearings giving huge access to the night sky in all directions.

Jeez the guy is a fairly new member you don't have to act like the a$$ that you are right away. That's one reason we are losing so many people because of sarcastizm like that. Be careful or you will be here all by yourself and no one to get sarcastic to except yourself.

I prefer shooting alone, with nothing interfering with my focus.

I've travelled Egypt, Germany (both west and east before the wall came down), France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Czech Rebublic, Slovakia, Jamaica, across Canada and most of the United States. In Europe I photograph cities and in North America it's wildlife and countryside including deep wilderness. All done either alone or on occassion when I'm lucky, with my wife. Daytime, nighttime...doesn't matter. Never had an issue with either people or animals.

Well that is not the case with equipment purchases.

My wife travels for work so I do a lot of my shooting when she's out of town, and when she's home she has other interests that she does with her friends. During those times I go out to do some shooting too. It helps keep me out of mischief.
