Shoving Windows 10 down my throat !

A week ago a message popped up on my screen. It asked what date and time I wished to install Windows 10.
I couldn't get rid of the screen until I put in a date and time.
I put in 7/29/16, 11:00PM. That is the latest time and date I could get away with.

What can I do now. I don't want any changes on my computer. I'm not
computer savvy. I'm 84 and I'm afraid I won't be able to figure out the changes
that they will hit me with.

You Hedgehog (not Ugly) folks try to solve peoples problems no matter what they are.
I appreciate your efforts.
Thanks, Walt

Windows 10 is very user friendly.

You can have it look and act just like your previous Win7 or Win8

1st pic is my Win10 Desktop screen just as my Win 8 was

2nd pic is what you can get with Win 10 by clicking on the Win Logo in the lower left corner.

I'm 74 and it's easy to use.

I was a die-hard Win 7 user. I read all the bad stuff about 8 and 10. Finally I bit the bullet and now I have Windiws 10 on two computers. I have used it for two weeks. With click of a mouse button the screen looks just like Win7, only it is faster. All my post processing software works faster, and I have no beefs. Pull the trigger now while it is still free.

I am 72, and my first computer was an Osborn 1, running CPM operating system (anybody remember the old "pip" command? 😄). The point is that change is going to happen. Put on your big boy panties and live with it.

It will ask you to agree with terms and conditions.
Don't agree.
Install will not complete and will revert back to your old system.
This is what I did.

That is like telling a rape victim that she might as well enjoy it because it is going to happen anyway.
The next Windows computer the OP buys will have Win10, or later, on it, but the OP gets to choose.

The way things stand right now, Microsoft has convinced me that my next computer will be a Linux computer.

I just am just four year behind you and heard the same crap. I am now changing my second one over, the lap top. I did not have any trouble and I will agree it is user friendly. I just wished I had done it months ago. As we get older we seem to get afraid of change. I can remember back to my youth and hearing the same things that I am now saying. I remember when a lot of folks were disparaging TVs, movies, and a host of other inventions, even computers twenty or so years ago. We can not stop progress. Either we go along or get left behind. Remember the horse and buggy versus the automobile?

My issues have nothing to do with change. I have been changing all my life. Right now, it appears that Microsoft is being entirely too intrusive. Information has value. I have every right to keep that value to myself, and I'm not convinced that Microsoft has developed the tools and interface to give me the control that is rightfully mine. I choose to stay away from Facebook for exactly the same reason.

Ok.
You guys gave me some food for thought.
I think I'll give it a shot.

And thanks, Jay Pot. That sounds like a good way to get out of it.

???

I'll let you guys know what happens.

Microsoft convinced me of going to Linux a couple of years ago. I use it for everything except the photo processing. Most of the really good photo post-processing programs require Windows. I use the Linux machines for everything else. Linux is fantastic. Have a GREAT DAY!

Well having to learn new technology can be frustrating, but there are numerous free helps, videos and such. Micro$oft has easy to access tutorials that are readily available. A little bit of brain strain can be a good thing, keeps your mind sharp, just be patient. YouTube is a great place to start. While I had a cellphone for many years, I was lagging behind in my switch to a smartphone and it just happened that my first smartphone was a Windows phone. I sat in front of my computer watching how to videos on YouTube. Anyway, it took about three days for me cover just about everything, but it was worth it.

Yeah, but if someone has already been using Windows for years and years then a switch to Linux might just be overwhelming. There is a long learning curve with Linux. If you want an easy to learn intuitive OS, then Mac OSX is what you want.

My daughter sent me this link from a gaming site:
{obviously they have a rather jaundiced view of Win10}

I do presently have Windows 10 on most of my computers. I'll agree that it is faster than earlier Windows versions, however, I've had serious issues with it. On my major desktop, periodically I will completely lose Microsoft Edge (Explorer) and then when I go to shut the computer off, these are the same times that I've lost the power selection on the start button. This has happened periodically with Windows 10 on this particular computer, but it's too late to revert to my earlier Windows version, so I curse and live with it. It works fine on one of my laptops, but on the second (and I was faced with the same thing you were, "Pick a date and time." Well, I did try it and the same thing happened with this laptop as with my desktop - the second time I logged in, I lost the Microsoft Explorer. I also had transcription software on the computer and completely lost the sound on it. Fortunately I was able to go back to Windows 7 Pro. You do have 30 days to get your old system back. I suppose at some point all the bugs will be gone from Windows 10, but I prefer the earlier versions at this point in time. I am 80, so I am in the older seniors group.

Don't worry yourself it's really easy to use, I am of similar age to you and have been using it since day one - no problems at all.

Why not let it install. Windows 10 is better than Windows 7 and extremely better that Windows 8.
