Hey merrytexan, after 12 years, I did get pictures of a bull moose this spring. Will post picture after I figure out where to post it. Leitz didn't like me posting here, said it should be in the Gallery??? I am new at posting on UglyHedge.

Went looking for a moose. I know, this is not a moose, was the best I could do.

Nice shot . We get a lot of these around here, north Idaho, you can here the males drumming a long ways off when thy get started. We also have lots of moose. It's almost like when I lived in Alaska, you have to watch you back when you are out. Not just the moose but the reintroduced wolves and grizzly bears, they are getting out of hand.

looks as though he is doing a courting display

When you WANT to get close it is hard, but these birds can be very territorial and defensive, and are often attracted to loud noises such as engines. They will run out from the side of the road and "attack" passing cars at times. I witnessed one in New Hampshire that was attracted to the sound of a lawn mower - the owner of which lived in a house deep in the woods. When he would come out and mow his yard, the grouse would come out of the nearby woods and walk behind him the entire time. Not attacking, oddly enough - just walking behind him. When he was done, he would say goodbye to the bird, which would return to the woods.

What I meant was the grouse is pissed off because she had young with her that she was protecting.
