Just a quick note. If you're ever considering using Magic Lantern, stop at 1.2.3 (which will autofocus fine at f8 with the 100-400 +1.4 EX) as 1.3.3 isn't supported by ML on the 5D3. There are a few small changes in 1.3.3, but they weren't enough for me to preclude the use of ML, which has a host of useful features.

Good info. I do not currently use ML but who knows about the future.

You can backrev from 1.3.3 to 1.2.3, but you have to do it externally rather than through the camera menu - kind of a pain... BTW, Magic Lantern is cool - neat features like raw histograms, built-in intervelometer, focus peaking, and a host for video/audio.

I have the same setup 5DIII, 100-400L 1.4 III telecoverter, and I just finished calibrating them. Mine does autofocus at f/8 with the center focus. Is the autofocus not working period? Hate to ask, but the switch on the lens is set to AF and not MF?

Thanks for your thoughts. I think it is my firmware that needs updated. When you calibrated your set up, what microadjustment did you have to make at the zoom?

I bought my 5DIII in 2014 and have never updated the firm ware.
Using the Datacolor Spyder Lenscal system, for the zoom, 560mm, the target distance 75 ft, stabilizer off, set to AF, focusing distance set at 6.5m to infinity the adjustment is 3 and for the wide adjustment at 18 foot distance is -5

Thank you for that. My settings for the 100-400 alone are +6 for the zoom end and -4 for the wide end.

It's going to be different for every camera/lens - mine is -4@100 and -2@400 using the FoCal system.
