The little box in the lower right hand corner - holds 3 laser pointers: one is 5mw and the others - - well - - lets just say they came from Hong Kong. They get used when I have to give presentations {such as this week in Atlanta} - - otherwise I use them to determine the distance to the moon by bouncing the light off the retro-reflectors left by the Apollo crews :-)

I was surprised to learn that it's very difficult for the scientists to bounce laser beams off those reflectors. They send 10 to the 17th power photons to get just one return. When the laser pulse gets to the moon, it is about two miles wide. Ain't science great?

THAT'S a LOT of Photons !! I'm surprised that the aliens living on the moon continue to tolerate us popping lasers at them :-)
