Hi All,
I like this shot, but I think I need to do something to make him/her stand out more. I tried to darken the sky with the HSL panel in LR but I get a blue cast around the neck. Suggestions would be appreciated.
Nikon D500, Nikkor 200-600 f5.6
1/500 sec, f5.6, ISO 320 Shot at 320mm and cropped.

Thanks,
Dale

It's a good shot generally. The bird is backlit, therefore you need to brighten the foreground and knock a couple of stops off the background. You can do this in PS using the "shadows/highlights" feature. There are other ways as well, but s/h is easy. Use an adjustment layer if you don't want to apply the change permanently.

Since the shot is already done (which is still pretty good) Imagemeister's suggestion is spot on and if you could do it again, use spot metering with rpavich's suggestion on exposure. I understand things can happen when you're in a hurry. I was shooting a monster gator once and when he got up I quickly retreated and accidently turned a dial and blew the next three shots when he started walking. It happens.

Good Morning Dale,

Used On1 Photo 10, Enhance, Auto Color and Tone Adjustment, moved the "highlights" and "black" adjustments all the way to the left. Nothing else.

Worked for me with a really nice photo to start working with.

Hope this helps.

Pete

Very Nice!!! I'm also using ON1 with Lightroom. Had not tried those settings, looks great. Thanks,
Dale
