And I give you back your advice, and I quote "if you see a post you don't agree with or like, then why not just move on to the next one to see if you like that one". I find it interesting you can't follow your own advice.

That is because it was important enough to point out that your reply sucked.

IF I had to guess, I'd say your reply was fuled by envy. A terrible trait to have.

For a change, try to be happy for someone who is.

Do you remember that dude from India awhile back who said:

be the change you want to see in the world

I agree with a lot of what you have to say, quote "Another type I don't understand is when a poster asks a question and somebody replies, I don't have any clue as to how to answer your question because I don't own that computer, camera or whatever." And thank you, that is my point, when you post something that has no value to photography, why post it, and, following this line of reasoning, why post when you get a camera, lens, whatever, what value does that have to me as a photographer, now if he had posted photo's he had taken with the D500, stated new and interesting information I could use about the camera, that would be good. But what value is there in posting topics like, 'the brown truck came today" or my favorite, "the brown truck came today to my house, I am at work and I can't work because the brown truck came to my house and all I can think about now is what the brown truck brought me, o boy." How cares. I want info I can use, you share that in a post, good for you. Lets have more of that and less brown truck reporting.
I agree with a lot of what you have to say, quote ... (show quote)

Cheese and rice! You just can't let it go can you? There are so many posts posted every day that you may find to your liking, what are you wasting your time pointing out the lack in this one? You sure are something else. Maybe one day we will all grow up to be as great as you.

Why don't you go and take some more snap shots. Time better spent wouldn't you think? Or are you already evolved enough where every shot you take is a masterpiece?

Thanks Bill, as soon as I use it and get some experience I'll be more qualified to post my thoughts and display some images. Funny thing is after I posted I went to Youtube and watched 4 videos on D500 recommended settings. Like others, I never take a new camera out of the box and start shooting. I like to know as much about it as I can before heading out the door. Guess I was just excited about the new purchase and wanted to share with my fellow UHHers. I've posted my photos in the past and learned so much from everyone here. They be more coming in the next few weeks. Thanks again and, yes, it's the best when you have an understanding wife. :)

You should NOT apologize to this tool. That is just crazy. But it shows how much more of a man you are than him. I also find it interesting how some people try to enforce their own rules on a forum that is pretty much un censored and FREE. You would think that we would all enjoy the freedom of reading what we want and skip what we don't find interesting. Somehow that concept is foreign to a few for some reason. What I find really funny is that when it is suggested that they start their own forum with their own nazi set of rules, these same men continue to remain here anyway.
Have fun with your new toy!

PS: do you think when he purchases anything new he keeps it all to himself?

After being with UHH for quite a few posts now I find it common to see members post things quite often about, The Big Brown Truck came today or The White Truck came today, delivering a new camera, lens, camera bag or something regarding cameras. As a large family involved with the world of photography most of us are happy the poster is getting something new. We are genuinely happy for them. That is a good thing. I can't help but wonder why you posted your post. With all due respect to you having a right to share your view point, you pretty much deride the gentleman for posting about the new Nikon D500 he bought and liken him to a 3rd grade student. I can understand you preferring posts giving lots of information useful to the readers, most likely technical information. What I can't understand from you and other posters on different topics is why you feel the need to say anything at all. Your post certainly offers nothing useful to anyone that I can see or relate too. At least the buyer of the D500 is offering us a share of his life, his happiness at purchasing a new camera. He does seem to post photos often enough that he will most likely post photos from the D500 as well. But that is after he receives it.

My good hearted suggestion to continue good will on the UHH forum would be if you see a post you don't agree with or like, then why not just move on to the next one to see if you like that one. Personally I see many photographs, posts, etc. that I either don't like or simply don't interest me in the slightest. I could waste a day just telling each poster why I don't like that photo or why I have no interest in them taking photos of NYC or Dallas or some place in Europe. But what a waste of my time and why spread hurtful feelings to a total stranger.

By the way I just purchased a new Leica M9 with a 28mm lens and a 50mm lens. I love the camera and lenses. Photos are everything I have wanted with sharpness normally attributed to Leica lenses along with vibrant colors. What a great purchase.

I agree completely. I like to see what has made others happy. If a personal friend shares something with me I don't tell him to get lost, I couldn't care less. What kind of decent person would do that?
By the way I very much like the Nikon 200-500mm lens the big brown truck brought a couple of weeks ago!

Pulled the trigger and purchased the new Nikon D500 ...

I got my D500 when the Big Brown truck pulled up on May 26. My only regret is that I didn't know it was coming out, before buying a D4s last year. I would have skipped the D4s.

The D500 is a real beauty. Fast focus in early morning and late evening light is fantastic. I paired it with the Nikon 200-500mm and they do seem to like each other. While this is a 'relatively' inexpensive lens, the results are all I could ask for. Being a "cheap" lens, it has a lot of plastic, but that makes it light. Most of what I have posted since getting it are with the D500 / 200 -500, hand held.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, and seeing some images.

Good Luck and enjoy!

There is an issue with this camera and Lexar high speed SD cards. Lexar and Nikon are working on it. The result, if you use them, is possible intermittent card errors. No loss of images AFAIK, just have to turn the camera off and back on.

Show and tell seems to be an accepted practice here. Your post does not build on any useful information, does not clarify advantages or disadvantages of the camera outside your quote of 10FPS and a huge buffer and it's reputation for BIF (which has been pointed out in dozens of posts). The best part of your post is the part about your understanding wife, that is nice. I prefer posts that give actual information we can all use, like the post yesterday that gave the site to go to on the use of the D500 and recommended settings for BIF. Those posts are useful to the readers. Show and tell has their place in elementary school as a way of building self confidence and self worth, usually by the third grade students learn to harbor their desire for instant gratification and mature to a level of confidence that no longer requires show and tell. Congratulations on your purchase, I have heard good things about the camera.

Thanks, I got your note and immediately checked. Yes, it's the Li-Lion20. Since everyone was backordered until this weekend I was pretty sure it had the corrected battery. It did!! Thanks again for the heads-up!!

One thing to check. Apparently, early versions of the EN-EL15 battery will cause the camera to display the wrong number of shots remaining. If you have any of those batteries, Nikon will exchange them for you. The early batteries were the EN-EL15 Li-ion01. The EN-EL15 Li-ion20 is the new version. Here is info on that.

Thanks Bill, I did go ahead and purchased the 64GB XQD card and as a secondary card, I use a SanDisk 32GB. So happy to hear your success with this camera. I hope to put it to the test over the next few weeks. I'll definitely have a report with images. Thanks again!!

Rob, this thread is mostly directed to you and, to a lesser degree, to several others as well, but, especially, to Dennis, due to the fact that he and I were among several other members who were very happy for the excitement you had shared with all members in our forum earlier today for your having taken delivery of your brand spanking new Nikon D500.. Actually, my thread, which you are about to read, is not so much directed to photography, but it does have to do with a FedEx truck delivering my new Weatherby Mark V .460 Magnum Dangerous Game Hunting Rifle to my local FFL dealer just this past Friday morning ! Although I no longer hunt wild game animals, I am an avid collector of fine rifles ~ those which are adorned with exceptionally rare exhibition grade Claro Walnut stocks with ornate engraving, equally as impressive exquisite inlays to match, and, lastly, most all metal parts are carefully embellished with an artisan's best touch when engraving upon their barrels, their receivers, and most all other metallic surfaces. Of course, rifles of this ilk do come at a cost and even a twenty count box of their cartridges will easily eat up two one hundred dollar bills ! Sometime tomorrow morning, my hopes are to take a few photographs of my new masterpiece whereby I can soon follow up by sharing them with our membership by posting them into the Photo Gallery section within our UHH venue, however; should you or any others find that you have no interests whatsoever in high end exhibition grade rifles, by all means, please skip over my entry and move onto something other that may be of far more interest to you, something that is more consistent with your tastes and or, simply, just move onto something other that truly strikes your fancy.

Best regards, my friends, and may you all enjoy your evenings,
~ Doug ~

Hope you are doing better. Hated to see your post, when you were in the hospital.
I just added you to my buddy list so I will have less chance of missing your photos of your new Weatherby Mark V.
Have fun with it, and be careful.
Maybe you can get a shot of the Big Brown Truck that delivers it, to share also.
