Maybe we should have an official show and tell day to keep them busy writing about their disgruntlement. Oh btw....I just bought a Canon EF 200mm f/2L grin.....

After being with UHH for quite a few posts now I find it common to see members post things quite often about, The Big Brown Truck came today or The White Truck came today, delivering a new camera, lens, camera bag or something regarding cameras. As a large family involved with the world of photography most of us are happy the poster is getting something new. We are genuinely happy for them. That is a good thing. I can't help but wonder why you posted your post. With all due respect to you having a right to share your view point, you pretty much deride the gentleman for posting about the new Nikon D500 he bought and liken him to a 3rd grade student. I can understand you preferring posts giving lots of information useful to the readers, most likely technical information. What I can't understand from you and other posters on different topics is why you feel the need to say anything at all. Your post certainly offers nothing useful to anyone that I can see or relate too. At least the buyer of the D500 is offering us a share of his life, his happiness at purchasing a new camera. He does seem to post photos often enough that he will most likely post photos from the D500 as well. But that is after he receives it.

My good hearted suggestion to continue good will on the UHH forum would be if you see a post you don't agree with or like, then why not just move on to the next one to see if you like that one. Personally I see many photographs, posts, etc. that I either don't like or simply don't interest me in the slightest. I could waste a day just telling each poster why I don't like that photo or why I have no interest in them taking photos of NYC or Dallas or some place in Europe. But what a waste of my time and why spread hurtful feelings to a total stranger.

By the way I just purchased a new Leica M9 with a 28mm lens and a 50mm lens. I love the camera and lenses. Photos are everything I have wanted with sharpness normally attributed to Leica lenses along with vibrant colors. What a great purchase.

Not a bad idea at all, then all of the elementary kids will be happy at one time.

Good job, Dennis. I agree with all that you've written and it is a shame that we have among us an UHH member who would like to have a forum that will conform to his ways of thinking !

In life, have you ever noticed how unfortunate it is that some men will choose to take a path that is hurtful to others, yet; more than likely, they, themselves, are the ones who are hurting and their most damning adversary is totally within ~ whereas facts have proven that these men are very much unhappy with themselves and their relationships with women, habitually, terminate being a shallow total sham. Too often people who berate and debase others do so to cover for their own inadequacies as well as they have a lacking of sound qualities that only precipitate destruction in their very own personal lives. Men as such, more often than not, neither have a wife nor do they have anyone of the female persuasion who really genuinely loves them. To compensate for this loss, you will often find grown men of this sort being self indulging, self centered, self absorbed, relentlessly finding a need to brag about themselves, and forever feeling the need to outdo others. To accomplish these things, such a person will often be seen driving a flashy car or a pickup truck with a lifted suspension with huge tires and if their mufflers aren't loud enough, they will find ones that are. Of course, men of all ages having anatomical deficiencies, will most definitely subscribe to likened themes and men as such will forever go out of their way to make the other guy to seem meaningless, ultimately insignificant and far, far less intelligent.

Thank you. As for your question, I am an ex LEO and retired corrections officer who started on death row and Administrative Segregation. The qualities??? you suggest were present in many inmates, both male and female that were under my supervision. No matter what you told them they thought they were superior in their thinking. The most useful thing they never thought of was when I would remind them, "We only catch the dumb criminals, the smart ones are still out there". Most if not all of the inmates I am talking about had multiple arrests so apparently they were the dumbest of the dumb. Believe it or not I genuinely got along with many of the inmates and found them interesting to talk to until they started bragging about how intelligent they were. I would roll my eyes and they would see the folly of that statement.

As for the person who, in my opinion, demeaned your post, he is probably a fine person who possibly got up on the wrong side of the bed (as my mother used to say) or just decided to say something to someone today whether it was right or wrong. Maybe he is a frustrated other camera user who can't figure out how to use a Nikon. Who knows? Sometimes I am like him and really want to insert my 2 cents but then realize it would do no good at all and would make me look like an ass. Another type I don't understand is when a poster asks a question and somebody replies, I don't have any clue as to how to answer your question because I don't own that computer, camera or whatever. Why not just skip the post and go to the next.

Have a great day and good luck with the new camera. I look forward to photos from it and you.

Dennis

Steve, that's exactly what I do. I not only play but I take photos of the SW Florida Junior Golfers. They'll have a number of events over the Summer. My D750 burst rate was close to 6. Looking forward to 10 and a buffer rate of 200. Lots to learn with it but excited to take my first test run! Thanks.

Do you golf? Try taking a burst of somebody's golf swing if you are. At one time I would have liked a camera like this for that purpose.

Pulled the trigger and purchased the new Nikon D500 to add to my arsenal of cameras. Blessed to have an understanding wife! Great reviews for those who want to shoot sports. I had it overnighted. Will share some photos after my personal burn-in period and watching tutorials. Can't wait to shoot BIF! 10FPS and huge buffer. Excited for sure!~!~ Had to share with my UHH family.

When I saw the post "Pulled the Trigger", I knew it was "show and tell" time. I opened the post because I have the time to read and enjoy any post about someone's excitement in acquiring new gear.
Congratulations. Enjoy the 500.

I think the difference is that I did not demean you or put you down. I simply asked why you would put down the other person because he wrote about buying a new camera. I suggested you simply ignore the post and move on. There are probably 2-3 people every day who post they bought something new. I have never seen you say anything to them so I wonder why today, why this person, why that camera, did you feel you had to put him down by saying he was like a 3rd grader. Actually I have a life and don't really care but you might want to ask yourself those questions.

Please have a wonderful day and let us know if you purchase a new Nikon.

Good shooting to you sir,

Dennis

Thanks. Yes Venice is just north about an hour. Love SW Florida. Looking forward to taking the D500 out. I always spend a day or two on tutorials before I shoot. I need to get to know th camera and it needs to get to know me!! Have a great trip to Israel. If it helps, for travel I use a Think Tank. It holds two bodies, at least 3 lenses and accessories and it's on rollers and fits in overhead. TSA approved. Check them out at B&H. Good luck!

Have fun! I'll be breaking in an FZ-200 next week when I go to Israel. I love BIFs too, but my favorites are the ones with afterburners :) My Sony w/lenses is too bulky and heavy (baggage restrictions). My parents winter about 100 mi north of you in Vebice. I don't think I've ever been to Naples.

I agree with a lot of what you have to say, quote "Another type I don't understand is when a poster asks a question and somebody replies, I don't have any clue as to how to answer your question because I don't own that computer, camera or whatever." And thank you, that is my point, when you post something that has no value to photography, why post it, and, following this line of reasoning, why post when you get a camera, lens, whatever, what value does that have to me as a photographer, now if he had posted photo's he had taken with the D500, stated new and interesting information I could use about the camera, that would be good. But what value is there in posting topics like, 'the brown truck came today" or my favorite, "the brown truck came today to my house, I am at work and I can't work because the brown truck came to my house and all I can think about now is what the brown truck brought me, o boy." How cares. I want info I can use, you share that in a post, good for you. Lets have more of that and less brown truck reporting.

Thanks Bill, as soon as I use it and get some experience I'll be more qualified to post my thoughts and display some images. Funny thing is after I posted I went to Youtube and watched 4 videos on D500 recommended settings. Like others, I never take a new camera out of the box and start shooting. I like to know as much about it as I can before heading out the door. Guess I was just excited about the new purchase and wanted to share with my fellow UHHers. I've posted my photos in the past and learned so much from everyone here. They be more coming in the next few weeks. Thanks again and, yes, it's the best when you have an understanding wife. :)

Show and tell seems to be an accepted practice here. Your post does not build on any useful information, does not clarify advantages or disadvantages of the camera outside your quote of 10FPS and a huge buffer and it's reputation for BIF (which has been pointed out in dozens of posts). The best part of your post is the part about your understanding wife, that is nice. I prefer posts that give actual information we can all use, like the post yesterday that gave the site to go to on the use of the D500 and recommended settings for BIF. Those posts are useful to the readers. Show and tell has their place in elementary school as a way of building self confidence and self worth, usually by the third grade students learn to harbor their desire for instant gratification and mature to a level of confidence that no longer requires show and tell. Congratulations on your purchase, I have heard good things about the camera.

Thanks so much. You've seen the manual. Watching tutorials on Youtube is much easier. I saw a number of the features to speak of and have done some preliminary settings. (Back button focus, etc) I'm headed on a 12 day trip to MN this week. Plan on learning a lot more about it over the next few weeks. Thanks again and excited to add it to my camera body list!

I bought a D500 a couple of weeks ago. I'm very impressed with it. They've added number of autofocus points to the list of functions that can be programmed to the preview, Fn1, and Fn2 buttons. I assigned single point autofocus to the preview button on the front of the camera. You may be in a situation where you're using a lot of autofocus points to track a subject but need to quickly switch to single point autofocus to pinpoint focus on a subject. By holding in the preview or Fn button you can instantly have single point autofocus or any of the options for number of autofocus points. I also programmed the virtual horizon to the Fn1 button. Try out some of those options.
