I would love to have a d500...but how many cameras do we really need?

And I also grow tired of-hearing the d810 is better at portraits and landscapes but not really good at BIF.

Here are are a few examples of BIF shot with an 810 and 200-500 nikkor lens by my wife, Sleepydrdr, all hand held

AFC 21 focal point set up.

Nice. But nothing that the D7200 could not accomplish.

So, the D7200 can do 10 FPS. I did not know that. And can match the buffer of the D500, did not know that either. And is as good in low light, did not know that either. And has a tilt screen, I did not know that.

At least two cameras. The D810 and the D500. If you can afford both? BTW, those are some great looking shots.

Ok, I did now I will see if that helps. Thank you.

From what little I've learned, yes. The D500 is loaded with communication options - SnapBridge, wi-fi, Bluetooth, etc., which are always searching for devices to connect to. Go to the setup menu and set airplane mode to ON. That will prevent the camera from transmitting. Default setting is OFF (let's the camera communicate).

I just did a major review of the camera, lots of photos and advice in there too:

Also, check out the supplement info on my site for suggested action settings:

(note that my site is getting slammed ever since this review hit - so it might take a couple tries to get in)

This is very helpful, Steve. Thanks for posting it.

Well what you don't know could fill this site and many times over. Two items of your profound ignorance are the image capability of the D7200 and the ability to understand English.

I was one of the first to get a D500 from B&H. In the excitement of a new camera I paid for it months before it was released. My D7200 only had a thousand or so clicks. I put the D500 through my own test against my D7200. The new features on the D500 are great but when it came to my bottom line the photos from my D7200 were better.I sent the D500 back hoping may be I just got a dud. I know some of the self appointed experts on this site will rip my opinion but it is what it is. I will wait until the smoke clears and order another D500. I am a loyal nikon user.

I bought a D500 about two weeks ago and have been comparing shots taken with the D500 with shots from my D7000 and a D7200 that I had recently rented. I used the same lenses on all cameras bodies for consistency. I think the D500 shots exceeded the D7200 shots a little. I wonder if with your camera it was a back focusing or front focusing issue. Your lenses may have been front or back focusing a little on that particular D500. It's possible that some AF fine tuning was needed.
