True there is an Email option but it is very limited. If you need to set extension, specific size, resolution it doesn't do the job. I find export and then use the attach in your mailer more robust. If it's a quick and dirty then email will work.

I agree, but I was trying to point out the (probably) easiest way to do email. I do as you indicate - Export then attach the file to my email in the email client application.

You wrote that you are a non technical person so I would suggest keep things simple.
1- Check the settings in LR EXPORT - My settings have the edited images placed back into a sub folder of the same folder the images came from. There is no renaming of the edited images, they carry the same name out as they did coming in ... eg. 71K_1234.jpg in and out, except that the exported image goes into that sub folder I mentioned. BTW the folder is simply called LR FOLDER.
2- Before using LR it would be EXTREMELY beneficial to get all of your photos in order. By that I mean, be able to locate any individual photo ... easily! I took the advice of a You Tube tutorial and have ONE folder containing ALL of my images. Within this folder are sub folders eg. Birds , Friends & Relatives , Animals , etc. etc. Within these sub folders are sub folders eg. In the sub folder Birds, there is a slew of sub folders Hawks, Eagles, Ospreys, etc. etc. Within those sub folders are still more sub folders Eg, Within the Osprey folder there are sub folders titled At the golf course , Nest 1 , Nest 2 , etc. etc. After you get all of your images sorted out you will be ready for LR. Again, to keep it SIMPLE, I don't store any image locations within LR. When I open LR, I point (browse) the IMPORT to the folder where the images I want to work on are stored. I IMPORT what I want to work on and then EXPORT them into a subfolder within the folder they came from. Just before I close LR, I delete all of the images (JUST FROM LR ... Not from the disk). Deleting from the disk will allow LR to actually delete your photos from where you have them stored - they'll be GONE (oh, you can get them back but that's not part of my suggestions) ... just don't delete them from the disk. Every time I use LR I simply browse down to the folder where the images to be edited are stored and IMPORT them. By not allowing LR to keep track of where my images are, I never run into problems such as you were having.
I know there will be plenty of people who will not agree with my use of LR in this fashion, but this is the SIMPLEST method. There is at least one drawback I should point out ... there will be no editing HISTORY within LR if you should wish to re-edit an image; you will have to start from scratch (as if this was the first time you placed the image into LR for editing). I'm not a professional photographer and I very seldom re-edit an image, so it's a small price to pay for keeping things SIMPLE.
3- Keeping things SIMPLE - don't e-mail from LR directly but rather from the folder where the image is stored. It's just less to learn ... right now.
As you become more comfortable with LR, by all means, start using it in any fashion you wish. My suggestions were made with the sole idea of keeping it SIMPLE..
Good Luck.
It's easier to do than to explain; there are a ton of tutorials which cover pretty much every aspect of LR; look at some of them.

Thanks for your detailed explanation of storage of files. I understand files and how Lightroom works even though I still have a lot to learn about Lightroom.

The problem is not Lightroom as I can view the photos through Lightroom OK. The problem is why do I now have to convert the RAW files that are stored on my hard drive under Pictures so that I can see what they are. Previously, I didn't have to convert them before sending them by e-mail as I could see what the pictures were. I just had to click on them and select which one I wanted to send.

The problem seems to have arisen with the update of Windows 10. I HAVE ALSO SINCE FOUND OUT THAT IT IS SOMETHING TO DO WITH CHROME ALSO, AS I KEEP GETTING A MESSAGE THAT CHROME IS NOT MY DEFAULT BROWSER. ALTHOUGH I HAVE TRIED MAKING IT MY DEFAULT BROWSER IT HASN'T WORK AND WHEN THE MACHINE IS SWITCHED OFF AND ON AGAIN I GET THE SAME MESSAGE. IT IS A BANK HOLIDAY HERE TODAY (30 MAY) AND HEWERT PACKARD'S OFFICE WAS CLOSED, BUT I WILL CONTACT THEM TOMORROW AND NO DOUBT THEY WILL TALK ME THROUGH IT AND HOPEFULLY EXPLAIN (PLEASE SEE MY NEXT PARAGRAPH) TO ME.

Please see Isimpkins note above where he sends me a link to download Camera Code Pack that allows me to open ORF Olympus RAW Files. He kindly got me this information from the Microsoft Website, but I need to know whether my HP250GI Notebook is a 64 or 86 MSI. I need to know my Serial Number which I have, but I can't locate where the MSI is. I don't even know what is MSI. I do know thought that my Laptop (Notebook) is 64 bit. Is this the same as MSI? This is what I call technical information. Dealing with files are not technical information for me, as I was a secretary and dealt with files, so I do understand files.

It is all very frustrating. I dare say it is a matter of clicking the right button so to speak.

I am grateful to those who have giving suggestions and will eventually report back once the matter is sorted out in order to help others with the same problem.

I believe that in migration to Win 10, you may have lost or never installed the codec that allows Windows to see and open .orf Olympus raw files.
Microsoft's support site says the following for someone that had the same issue:
"Microsoft Camera Codec Pack
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=26829
(Windows 7, Windows Vista Service Pack 2)
Installing this package will allow supported RAW
camera files to be viewable in Windows Explorer"

While this may resolve the issue on your computer, anyone that you email the raw file to would need the same codec installed in order to view the files. In LR if you right click on a file in the grid view, "Email File" is one of the options that comes up (near the bottom of the list).

I just thought that I would report back that the above link is for Windows 7 only. I now have Windows 10, so when trying to download this pack I get the message "this program is not intended for this version of Windows.

Thank you and the other members for trying to help. Much appreciated.

I will try the Olympus Forum and see if others have the same problem.

I have now downloaded Chrome OK.
