Since updating to Windows 10 two weeks ago, my new RAW files and some of the old ones are now showing up as "untitled" and I am unable to see them as photos.

I have Lightroom 5 and Elements 11 and I am not an expert at either.

I have not had this problem before. I loaded some photos last night into Lightroom and this morning I went to e-mail a few to a friend and couldn't as the photos were "untitled".

(1) Obviously, there is a box in Lightroom that should be enabled to prevent this happening again. Can someone direct me to how this can be fixed for all future photos and get be back to how things were before updating to Windows 10?

(2) Can someone also please explain also how to convert those files that are now listed as "untitled" so that I can see them as photos?

I HASTEN TO ADD AS I AM NOT A TECHNICAL PERSON AND I AM IN NO WAY BLAMING WINDOWS 10, AS I PREFER WINDOWS 10. IT IS ONLY MENTIONED HERE, AS IT IS THE ONLY THING THAT I HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS.

I was unable to use my Laptop on Monday, as I was unable to use Windows 10. It was restored on Tuesday by a computer technician. He followed the instructions that were provided on screen, which I didn't understand. He explained to me that Windows 10 were updating the files and that is what caused the slight problem.

I hope that I have given enough information in order that I can be helped. I am not sure where this question should be posted, but hopefully Admin will see to that.

Many thanks in advance.

Heather

In the topic "Nes" should be "New". I have asked Admin to change it.

Can you find them using windows explorer and read the file name and extension of one of he files giving you probems? Trying to narrow the problem to the Operating system or LR. In addition, are you up-to-date with your service to LR.

Yes, I can find them where they are located on my hard drive.

I also managed to import them into Lightroom last night and I can see them there alright and I can see the photos alright.

The problem arose when I went to attach one of the photos to send by e-mail on my hard drive that I noticed "Unentitled" and knew that my friend couldn't open it without converting it as this is what another friend had to do when I sent him a photo asking why it was that I could no longer see these photos. He converted it telling me that I should convert them using the programs that I have, but what a hassle, as I didn't have to do this before.

No, I may not be up-to date with my service to LR. It was bought on a Disk and I thought it was updated automatically. How and where can I update LR please?

Yes, now find them under File Explorer as "untitled -1.0RF. There are 52 of them.

from what I found .orf support came in with LR 5.5 and why I asked if you were up to date with service. There was some scuttle about LR support for Olympus O-MD E-M10 but you said yours worked before you went to win 10. I guess I'm not much help.

Thank you for offering to help. I will give Olympus a ring now and see what they suggest.

In any event, when I have eventually sorted it out, I will report back here in case others have the same problem and may find it helpful.

The UK is ahead of the rest of the world and I would hope that when they are awake someone will have the answer before my bedtime.

Olympus has talked me through batch processing Using Olympus Viewer 3 into JPEGS. Although I have this program I have never used it. At least I can now send a photo to a friend.

It is not the way to go, as I didn't have to do this before. I could always see what the photos on the RAW files and could send them as they were, but in this case to see what the photos are I have to convert them to JPEGS.

So until any member comes up with a better way of dealing with these blank files, I will just have to continue converting them, which is a pain.

Could you just clarify that the problem doesn't occur until after the files have been imported to LR. Can you import the files straight into a folder in the Pictures library folder? And if so, are they OK when they get there?

Something to try in the meantime - right-click on one of the files and select "Open with". If Lightroom isn't one of the options select "Choose default program" which should give you LR as an option.

To update LR you should be able to do it with HELP>Updates. That should trigger a search for relevant updates. If you want a full upgrade to LR6 you'll have to go to Adobe.

It isn't a Lightroom problem as I download them straight into Lightroom and I name them where I want them to go while I am in Lightroom in my Pictures. I can view them in Lightroom Ok, so it is obviously not a Lightroom problem. As I don't know how to e-mail them from Lightroom I go to my hard drive where there are stored and they are there, but I can't open them until I convert them to JPEG and then I can see the picture. I only know this as Olympus told me how to convert them. I never had to do this before.

I have downloaded RAW files before and had no trouble viewing them on my hard drive, but now they appear as "untitled-ORF". I don't know what settings have been altered recently and where, but it is not a Lightroom problem.

They are other files also on my hard drive that have now been changed too. I can convert these files now with the help of Olympus Help Line, but they haven't thrown any light on why this has happened.

Thanks for your response. Surely I am not the only person that this has happened to?

To email just export them as a jpg(can be other extensions but jpg is most common) and attach it to an email. The export process lets you place the file anyplace you want, any size, DPI, name... Don't try to put it back where the source file is as this exported file can be erased when you are finished. You can always get another. I happen to have a directory called LR Export where I stuff them. Please note that LR does not keep track of exported files.

Thanks. I will have a go at that.

I believe that in migration to Win 10, you may have lost or never installed the codec that allows Windows to see and open .orf Olympus raw files.
Microsoft's support site says the following for someone that had the same issue:
"Microsoft Camera Codec Pack
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=26829
(Windows 7, Windows Vista Service Pack 2)
Installing this package will allow supported RAW
camera files to be viewable in Windows Explorer"

While this may resolve the issue on your computer, anyone that you email the raw file to would need the same codec installed in order to view the files. In LR if you right click on a file in the grid view, "Email File" is one of the options that comes up (near the bottom of the list).

True there is an Email option but it is very limited. If you need to set extension, specific size, resolution it doesn't do the job. I find export and then use the attach in your mailer more robust. If it's a quick and dirty then email will work.

Thank you very much for that information and I will download it and report back. I am pleased that I am not going senile yet, as I was beginning to wonder.
