Don't forget to attach the bagger, otherwise you just spew pixels everywhere!!!

Those big words scare me. Facetious? Bet you didn't learn that in the woods.

I have a Nikon Cool Pix 7000. It is a bridge camera. I was told bridge cameras act as a "bridge" to using DSLR cameras because they have many of the same capabilities .....settings, etc, but most don't offer interchangeable lenses. It has been a helpful tool for me, but my husband feels you should go right for the DSLR.
My "bridge" camera gave me time to see if I really liked photography before spending money on a DSLR while learning about aperture, shutter speed and manual settings. I now feel a bit more confident with my DSLR. Oh, also, my P7000 takes great photos!

There are a lot of good bridge cameras. I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ28 Those cameras have the distinct advantage of having a branded Leica lens. It's all in the glass.

The other nice thing is that they are less expensive than the same camera with the Leica name on it.

I have an S3IS and I wouldn't consider selling it as it has more bells and whistles than a NYC Santa Parade......and not to for get that great 12x optical and 48x digital zoom. Oh and the best thing of all ~ that great articulating screen! I would sell my 20D though......but only to upgrade to a 60D.

I am not sure what that means and what are the advantages/disadvantages?

Exactly, a Leica bridge would cost probably $1000. This was under $300. I'm considering a Nikon D5100 and my wife will get this bridge camera, its far more camera than she's ever had and she'll be happy with it for years.
