Frank,

I like the soft look for this particular image/subject. My only question is if you lost just a little too much depth of color in the purple or perhaps a tad loss in detail and sharpness? I understand the soft feel of the PP'ing, but I just wonder if perhaps just a small boost in selective contrast might help it out a little with the white vignetting? Possibly bring out the green in the leaves just a tad more for contrast . . . just ideas and questions.

Best Regards,
Tom

Tom Thanks for the CC. As you can see from the first picture it really was anything terrific about the image. The purple is what caught my eye and so I took the shot. When I downloaded it I wasn't impressed with it, and that is reason for the PP. To me the leaves are only framing the flower.

I was only out for a short time today. I took the first shot, it was a cloudy day. I played with it in elements and came up with the second shot. CC appreciated. Is it too over the top?

Looks like something I'd do (or try to).

Thanks for looking. Maybe I should send it to Hallmark. They might pay me enough to get another SD card. :)

Well you asked for critique so here goes my friend. Your original was a nothing sort sort of image so one tries to rescue something out of it with extreme PP? What you ended up with is a wishy washy sort of watercolor effect. Im pretty sure there will be a LR preset to give this effect.
My personal view on pushing the boundaries of PP is always start with a good image. Start with it clear and sharp and correct color wise. Then begin the magic Photoshop or similar can produce.
Or you go the other way and get all your images that probably should hit the bin and give em a good dose of Topaz or similar and try and convince others its art and what you meant to produce!
The good guys start with a blank canvas and have a pretty good idea of what they wish to see at the end of the project. They spend the time getting familiar with what their software package can do. Its strengths and weaknesses where other software may be needed.
But its all academic if you like your result. If you feel its fine everything in the gardens rosy. I think you can do a lot better with a little more thought and practice but again that's my opinion and who listens to ex junkies and drunks?

Billy I really do appreciate you taking the time giving me your thoughts and ideas. As I had mentioned previously in this thread the purple caught my eye as I was walking around. Yes I was pleased with getting a little lemonade out of a lemon. I also stated that there was room for improvement. Before going out for the day I went with this shot in another direction. Once again trying something a little different. Attached is what I am referring. These attempts by me are to try different things

I don't think it's over the top. Softness is just part of the allure of that shot of the flower.
