Rather than a car, it looks to me some late-night hooligans had fun stomping on the bike.

Regardless, a very cool image you have here! Excellent level of contrast.

Nice capture, Dave,

I like the lighting and glare you captured in your bike image.

To me, it just looks like the front wheel received damage . . . the front forks look like they are still straight, in tact, and unscathed.

As previously suggested, maybe it was merely a mischievous foot stomping with some heavier duty jumping for increased damage - unfortunately, perhaps someone was merely bored or drunk or on drugs as they passed by the innocent but tempting looking bike!

As for your camera, 'Things Happen!" However, that doesn't take away the pain, sorrow, and disgust you must have experienced.

I would think your camera was like an old friend, but at least it was repairable - but not much conciliation, however, I'm sure. Maybe your homeowners insurance may cover the costs for the repair from Nikon?

Best Regards,
Tom

Thanks rook2c4 !!! I do believe you may be correct, late night hooligans rather than a car. I never gave it any thought.

Nice capture, Dave, br br I like the lighting and... (show quote)

Thanks Tom !!! As rook2c4 pointed out also, I'm beginning to think your both correct. I thought since the bike was so close to the curb that it was a car. After looking closer and given the area it was in I do believe it was someone just being destructive.

As far as homeowners insurance, I feel it would be a waste of time because the deductible exceeds the repair costs. However, I do believe it is a fast turn around time for the camera left my house April 19th and will be returned to me on May 3rd according to the tracking number from UPS.

Thank you Snap Shot !!! Won't be all bad for long. Maybe I'll stay away from shooting broken items in the future ..... maybe, but doubtful !!!

I pass by chained up bikes in New York City all the time. But this one is worth shooting. I think the rainy street adds to the overall image. Lousy weather and a broken bike. Perfect together. :)

Thank you NJFrank !!! I would think one would see this sort of thing in New York City quite often. I do agree, the rainy street and lighting were on my side for this particular shot.

Yep, the bike is definitely broke. Good eye Dave.
Could have been worse. Your camera could have been chained to that meter post!!!

Oh my Don, if it were chained to the meter post I'm sure the out come would have been much worse. But yes, a good thing it wasn't.

Damn, Dave,
That an incredibly powerful image, articulately evocative of emotional reactions at many levels, at least for this viewer! You obviously had a variety of possible perspectives to choose among, and chose well!
The strong diagonal anchors the composition.
...and the incomplete decline to the sidewalk introduces unresolved physical tension.
A terrific image.

Thanks Dave !!! I am so glad this seems to have a high approval rating with you. I wish I had taken more at different angles but it was raining which made it hard to hold an umbrella in one hand and camera in the other, besides being in a hurry to meet Don.
