Eilean Donan has a dark side.....
.....and it's not looking pretty :) .
This is one of the shots I got from the other side and I haven't even tried to pretty it up. The tide was out and there's a generous amount of seaweed to be seen, but this isn't about making it picturesque.

The mood that comes across here is perfect for this iconic landmark. I can see in my mind's eye the spot you stood when shooting this perspective. Love it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for commenting, MadMike. Sometimes "picturesque" isn't the best way to go.
The only thing missing is the lovely maiden standing on the bridge where the wind whips her hair and dress around her like a shroud as she awaits the return of her lover lost :)

You're right, Singing Swan. It must have been her day off :-) . Lots of wind-swept tourists, though...

Sounds good. Don't worry if you don't have red hair - most Scots don't. And there's not that many Irish red-heads either - we just have more than our fair share :-) .

Wonderfull perspective R.G. well seen.
Sure sets a mood and lots of potential if you decide to work it!
Great capture.

Thank you Frank. It's not a difficult capture.

That is one of the loveliest images I've seen in a while. I'm extremely jealous. The composition seems perfect to me, and the capture is excellent if not perfect. There are many ways to go with processing, and I hope you'll keep working with it in your subtle but skilled way to bring out its best while keeping its natural beauty. Please share any new versions you develop, there is magic in this one.

Thank you Minniev. At the moment I don't have any ideas as to what it needs. It's taken a fair bit of pushing and pulling to get it this far. That triangle of land to the left of the castle was shrouded in mist, so there's not much detail to work with. I was thinking about adding a suitable tint, but beyond that I don't have any clear ideas as to where to take it. I have another similar shot - maybe I should put it up for processing and see where others take it.

I would if I were you, just to get ideas.
I'd probably put it through my common recipe of a teaspoon each of NIK tonal contrast and Glamour Glow on layers then dodge and burn. It doesn't need severe processing, but of course it is one of those that would look good pretty much no matter what you did to it. Those are rare, but this is one of them.
The composition is wonderful, R.G. I love the rough rocks, the line of the road, arches of the bridge, powerful presence of the castle.
I personally would not want to see any more detail in the sky or background left area, but wouldn't mind a tiny bit more drama in the textures of the stones.
