Going to California on vacation!!! I need some advice, please.
I am going to California next month for a week's vacation and would like some advice about taking pictures - pictures I just HAVE to have, don't waste my time on - that kind of things. It's my first visit to the state. Now I'm just a simple country girl and am a little nervous about a big city, so what would you suggest?

What part of California are you going to, what are your interests and do you want urban or rural shots? Just a few of a few dozen questions I would need answered to help you.
Yes- give us a hint of what part of the state you are going to be in.
It is soooooooooooo big and has soooooooooooo many many photo ops if we don't know where you are going to be - we can't tell you of our favorites of that part of the state.
May I suggest go for what you cannot get in Michigan. Big Sur. Yosemite. Death Valley. Sonoma.......... and then on the second day........

There are a few "Scenic Highways" in California, and they often do not disappoint. You want to be driving on them at sunrise (mainly, if near the coast) or sunset for best results. I was going to trade show once and took a scenic highway toward my destination as the sun was rising. I kicked myself for not bringing a camera!
Yes - many scenic hwys in CA - the time of year / season makes a great deal of differance on which one to take - the coastal hwys are good year around - but in the summer expect fog along the northern coast. The Redwoods are good year around - the wine country of No Ca is too - I live in the Sierra foot Hills & the wild flowers, flowering / blooming trees - dog wood, madrone, & fruit trees are all great right now. and there is still snow up in the higher elevations - the run off is very moderate this year so all the rivers & streams are easy on your camera.
If in Redding, Turtle Bay Exploration Park was not worth the time or the money. However, north of there is Shasta Lake Caverns and worth all the time and money to vist.

What about the great walking bridge in Redding, CA ? Mt Shasta is great and also the dam is photogenic.
Sarge
Only piece of advice I can offer based on the generality of your question is; Take LOTS of money with you!

The avatar is one of my dogs, Buddy. I got him at the shelter about 8 years ago and he is my buddy!!
Ooops!!! Sorry, I should have given more details. I will be flying into Sacromento to stay with my daughter and her family about 40 miles west of there. We want to go to the beach of course!! And maybe to Reno, LA, etc. I've been to Oregon alot and loved it there, but not to Califormia. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!
