this is one reason i copy all photos to a folder on the computer first

Many people do extra steps like this that take extra time, and is totally unnecessary if you simply use a card reader. Or as others have said connect camera to computer and import. Either way saves time of creating a folder structure first. You can do this on the fly in the import screen. personally I think it's better to learn the quickest way to do things. Saving time is always a good thing.

Allen.

I have no where else to turn!
I have Canon EOS Rebel T2i & Sony A6000 & Nikon D7200 and do not have a memory card reader! I have always used a usb cable to download my memory cards to the computer. Thank you!!!

first, I realize you are frustrated, but stop yelling, it does not help.
second, go to Best Buy, or your local electronics store and buy a card reader that you can insert into a usb port on your computer.
third, download the photos from your card to your computer, you just need to click and drag the images from the sd card to a file you create on your hard drive
last, import your photos to lightroom. no additional programs are needed to do this, and when you are done, you will have a copy on your computer and a copy in lightroom.
one caution, if you delete or move the photos from the folder they are originally in after you import them into lightroom, lightroom will no longer recognize the photos, as you have altered the original folder.[/quote]

No you DO NOT HAVE A COPY IN LR LR just has the information on where the photos reside on your computer

Very true

A good idea if you don'y have one already on your computer

This step is totally unnecessary and a waste of time. Learn to import directly from the card and create directories on the fly.

Wrong, LR only has a pointer to where the files are located on your computer. It DOES NOT have a duplicate copy of the photo.

True

Instead of yelling and bloviating at the entire UUH, I can't I can't even bring myself to quote you! you should simply slow down and re-take the import section. This could not be any simpler. They did cover it as well as did many other tutorials on youtube and other places.

BTW, your lack of the most basic understanding of Lightroom does not mean you can shout at us, and it does not create an emergency for us.

Listen, despite the fact that you like to go by the old "adage" that any time someone uses "CAP's," they're "Shouting;" I'm not of that School, or, Mind, whatsoever.

I buy into the fact, that Caps, are an option, on everyone's keyboard's, and that they ARE, TOO BE, USED, to provide Emphasis, and to Increase The Clarity, of that which one is attempting to convey,
in their post.

Cap's do not hurt you physically, in any way whatsoever, do they?

Do they do some sort of Psychological, harm to you?

Perhaps, CAPS, harm you, Emotionally?

Maybe, then, they hurt you, Spiritually?

Well then, what is your problem, with me, or, anyone else, using them for emphasis in their posts?

Probably, the same reason, that you've got so many other hang ups, in your life...you're too restrictive...

There is nothing, whatsoever, wrong with using Caps, in a post!

All of this "Caps, is Poor Etiquette Stuff;" Is nothing but a fictitious "wive's tale," that is carried along, by uptight whiner's, such as you.

In perfectly honest and truthful reality, there is absolutely, nothing wrong, with using Caps whatsoever, except that whiner's such as yourself, come right up, out of the woodwork, to bellyache, and cry, and bitch about their use.

In itself, Caps are perfectly fine, and useful, upper case letters, which are much easier to read, and they also provide for a great, and significant contrast, to the lower case font, that is typically used.

This ARBITRARY linking, of the use of capital letters, with the act of shouting, is as bogus, and fictions, as Ground Hog's Day!

Certainly, there are surely some people, who do, become angry, and irate, concerning some issue, and they will spout off, using all Capital Letters.

Yet, this is obvious, that they are acting out, in a malicious way!

This is clearly, not what I have done, in my post.

You are simply, shooting your mouth off, about my use of Capital Letters, out of your own reflex action.

You have place correcting me, for my use of capital letters, in my own post.

Has someone, appointed you, the Ugly Hedge Hog Policeman, for Capital Letter's, Used On Any Post's?

I didn't think so.

And, I don't give a damn, concerning your personal opinion on caps.

So, you may as well keep it to yourself.

Nor will I ever abide by your correction.

I will simply continue, to do that which I believe is appropriate.

Well, if you still haven't figured it out yet, my personal opinion, is that all poster's, SHOULD, utilize caps, in their posts, to increase clarity, and clearness of expression.

And, that Caps, DO NOT equate, to shouting.

That is Very Old & Out-Dated, Internet "Chatroom," Nonsense, and no longer applies today. The notion is only kept alive, by a few picky and I believe, ridiculous folks.

Have nice day.

Just remember you came here asking for our help. Many people asked you to turn off CAPS, not just me. So if you truly want help it might be best not to rant about not giving a shit about what those trying to help you might ask of you. Go somewhere else if you don't like the suggestions.

The following is a quote of the rules of the forum.

"Do not make posts in all capital letters. This includes topic titles. (You might consider using your browser's zoom feature to increase the size of the font in case you are experiencing difficulties reading/writing.)"

so if you do not agree with the rules of the forum, then maybe you should find a forum where the rules are more open to your way of thinking.

Yet, by adhering to that ancient, and outdated way of thinking, you are giving up, exactly, ONE HALF OF YOUR KEYBOARD'S, AND YOUR OWN ALPHABETICAL, AND TEXTUAL (Colorspace...) eg.TEXT SPACE....

By completely forgoing, entirely, the total usage, of all of the capital letters which can be utilized, to greatly increase the clarity of
your textual presentation of all of your thoughts in your posts, and communications...

THREFORE...It is better to begin to revolt against, the old and previously, incorrectly established, adage...That any use of, Capital Letter's, automatically equates to, "Shouting," when they are used
On-Line.

(What if the "etiquette were that we were all, to jump off, of a high bridge, when we reached 50 years old? Because it was deemed THE socially proper thing to do?

(Yes, of course, I fully realize...)

But, you do get my point?

Just because, "Everyone," does it, does not mean, that I should, also, or, that, "I have to, follow, that previously established convention."

(HOW DO YOU THINK THAT THINGS EVER CHANGE IN THIS WORLD?

(And, I'm NOT shouting at all...but just for emphasis....)

...There are, many very good reasons, not to follow social etiquette, at times; especially on the Internet!

I personally, believe that only a foolish person, would seriously interpret, the usage of capital letters, (in them self,) to be deemed to be, "Shouting," and I really have no problem in mildly offending, such a person.

Live, and let live.

It is still, a somewhat, free country.

And, the rules, of the UHH, do permit the use of some capital letters within posts.

This is my own opinion regarding the use of caps in posts.

I do try my best to minimize their use.

Have a great day! Allen.

Orrie: It states: Do not make posts "In ALL capital letters."

quote: "Do not make posts in all capital letters..."

IT DOESN'T SAY THAT you CANNOT USE Capital letter's within your posts or your post titles.

You are lacking in your reading comprehension, my good man!

Please have a great day, my dear friend!

Calm down and roll with the flow, Orrie,,, This is my home, just as much as it is yours!

we will just have to agree to disagree. this is not our home, we are just visitors, and when we visit someone else's home, we should respect their rules and conditions.

Boy am I glad I grew up in the South Bronx. Words in capital letters are a so what. You want to know what belligerent screaming is; the three Marine Corp Drill instructors I had in July 1960 at Parris Island. Everything else pales in comparison.

Here's my work flow:

1. Take the card out of the camera and either put it in the computer or a card reader.
2. Create a subdirectory on the hard drive where you want the photos to reside.
3. Drag and drop copy the files from the card to the directory you've just created.
4. Open Lightroom and click File/Import Photos and Video.
5. Select the directory you created and click Import.

Works every time!
