Welcome to Day 122 :) It's May Day today and our challenge is Celebrations from Childhood. What do your children and grandchildren do to celebrate? Whether it's birthdays, holidays or whatever... how do they have fun.
What are they going to remember in 40 years ?
When I was a kid we used to make up baskets of goodies and put them on peoples doorsteps. I haven't seen that done in a very long time. We also used to do a Maypole dance .. haven't seen that in a long time either but I did find one place here in town that was putting it on.
Here are a few examples to get us started ... I look forward to seeing what y'all come up with.

The Maypole is ready

The kids are showing up

Practice for a few minutes

So it begins ... over .. under .. and around

Creating this beautiful weave around the pole

And this is the result
And this is the result...

Of course I had to do a Kaleidoscope of it :)

I've heard of them but never saw one. In the past I would drop a May basket of flowers on my Secret pals front door step though. :D

*MAY DAY* Enjoy the flower

I not only remember the Maypole. I danced it once. Was probably 6 YO. I remember being so proud of it and how pretty it was.

When I was in grade 6 we did the Maypole thing once, Only the one time. We decorated baskets and all of thr girls in the girls dressed up and then the teachers and the boys chose a May queen. My best friend won. i had a photo once of all my friends and I with our baskets but it got lost in a computer crash. Your May pole pictures are delightful! and they really brought back the memories. Thank you for this. The only other childhood memory I have of early May is picking mayflowers. (Trailing Arbutus).

Pretty sure the mountain community of Helvetia still has the celebration and the dance today. I won't be able to shoot it this year, but it sounds like a good topic for next year!

Jim, that was just a few year's ago. For lunch my Mom would put cold cocoa in a mason jar for a drink to take to school. Delicious!

p1. Beautiful, Sherrie, I knew about the May Pole, but never participated in or saw one. Really nice capture. We used to look for May FLowers in the woods - but none around here. Beautiful flowers Jaclee, Great memories RR and FA - we used to take milk in a Skippy Peanut butter jar! And SmokenÂ….OK, next year let's plan a field trip to Helvetia for the Maypole celebration, Have an idea for today, but, not sure yet.

Growing up we never did have any May day thing just another day.
however when my daughter was a girl scout my wife was a leader and her troop did the baskets every year.
Thanks for the stories.

I remember May Day at grammar school. 5th grade -we danced around the may pole very much like the one in the pix. Great fun!
Guess I'll go to some Spring wild flowers for the feel of May Day. All these form the trip to East Haddam, Ct. Last week.

Not sure what tree this is. Beautiful though
