Mark, that is the point. You seem to think that you are a legend in your own lunchtime, and are thus superior to everybody else. What makes you so insecure?

You are clearly a very capable photographer, and I don't disagree with your concept that people should manage their education and aim towards being as self-reliant as possible. I see the OP as being in that position and asking relevant questions.

On the other hand, learning is about being able to ask questions without anticipating the fear of being ridiculed. In fact, being able to ask questions and collect information, and then make one's own decisions upon one's own criteria seems to be the approved methodology.

As I have said previously, insulting other people is not a good tactic for someone that professes to be an educator, as I believe you do.

I fully agree that you are a better photographer than I am, so your insults explicit or implied are like water off a duck's back.

In other areas, I suggest you don't try to engage. Your track record speaks volumes, and I would politely suggest that you are out of your depth. You clearly have a lot of value to add, but the manner in which it is delivered makes a huge difference.

As a professional educator, you should know that. It's part of education/teacher training 101.

Gosh, that was so long ago!

Guess that says it all about your attitude.

You come across as an elitist know-it-all who looks down on others.

Who says every person has to be an expert in all aspects of everything they do. The collective has more knowledge than anyone person could ever possibly have. And the internet allows us to tap into each other's portion of that collective knowledge.

I believe Einstein said something on the order of not wasting time memorizing anything that could be written down or accessed from others. Well we have the net and each other.

You are a professor, what subject? You should know that talking down to, rather than talking to students is a sure way to turn them off.
I taught for 34 years, high school, but in a way harder than college. Many of my students didn't want to be there, but the law says they have to go to school. I and their other teachers had to figure out how to get through to them to some degree.
No one requires people to go to college/university so to one degree or another your students volunteered to be there. That is a huge advantage.

I have known many who had teaching experience at college and high school level. All said that teaching college was easier and less stressful.

I guess my post wasn't a bear trap! Something more quantum-y-thingy like and about super positions. And hey, I like chasing rabbits!

Now I obviously need to add a longer lens :D will be Primary Used as Walk Around Shooting Birds/Nature

My local dealer has a:

EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM For $350.00 or less

EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM For $419.00 or less

Which lens would You rather shoot with, read good and bad reviews on both the or less part comes from the fact that the clerk mentioned he could be a little flexible on the price because I start their 5wk "Canon 101" class next Thursday

Neither one, if I would look at a 70-300, I would opt for the 70-300 L lens, especially if you thinking about shooting birds (300mm is a very short focal lens for birds, I think too short)!

I don't think so, Sir. It doesn't seem to be your style, and other than a simple catch that we both seem to agree on it is others that appear to throwing GAS on the fire.

Take care, have a great weekend, and keep adding your valuable insight!

Thx :D :D

speters, it sounds like he has 400 USD to play with. Either of the two choices or save money. I would still go with DO at that price as re-sale value.

What is so hypocritical is that you posted in rage at one time how important it is to stay on topic (lololo) .. what happened? And here you are making some asinine value judgment for one whose values fluctuate with the tides. What's the topic or can't you remember? To irritate you futher - why are you here? lololol

Mark, you really don't irritate me, it takes a lot more than that. On the other hand you seem to be very easily provoked and I'm sure that isn't good for your health. Have you taken your meds today?

You may wish to reconsider the condescending attitude that I and others have commented on. Despite your abilities it doesn't promote your ability to contribute to the community in a productive manner.

You do have a lot to contribute when you do it well. Then you occasionally seem to get into a mode where you undermine your own credibility. This is one of those times.

I will ask you politely to contribute the value that you have to offer without being condescending or insulting to others.

If you want a piñata to whack, go for it, I volunteer. Good luck with that!

You are so disingenuous. You say I am condescending then you send out a plethora of condescending comments as if this was a game (lololol) of who can be more condescending.

Grown up .. I don't have time for a psychopathic liar. So pathetic. (take meds and pinata?? - can't you be more inventive or entertaining?) lololol. You spend more time here wring garbage than actually pursuing photography - and it shows

QED again, unfortunately. Perhaps we can now get back to the topic of specific lenses?
