An old friend of mine send me some printed pictures and asked me to try and "do something" to make them better. Well I was his best man back in 1964 so I could not say no. As I discovered, the pictures have a combination of issues. The issues include color fading over time, and it appears that at some point they were either scanned on dirty glass or poorly printed. I tried to remove what appeared to be dust or noise using all the tips and techniques I could find on the net. Using dust and noise filters helped a little but sharpening and unsharp mask make it worse because sharpening makes the problem worse. Help if you can fix please do so or any other ideas are welcome

Unblurring a .jpg file is like trying to make eggs out of an omelet. It's a one way street and you're going against the flow.

I hope you don't mind but i wanted to try and see what i could do with the first one. lost detail in the uniform but there wasnt much there to start with. I used the remove dust and scratches tool in photoshop cs5 and tried to remove a little of the noise in it.

I did the first two. Could take the background out of the one with the coupld. If you are happy, I will do the last one later today. Terry Sita

Thanks so much Terry the first two look great! I really appreciate your help. The B&W one has a lot of issues and I just seem to push them around in circles. I think they were scanned from a paper copy of an old photograph. Again thanks

A little "tinkering" helped some... Photoshop, Topaz de-noise, Dodge and Burn

I used denoise and adjust on the sailor, but did not think of dodge and burn. That really did it.

Here's my effort. Love trying this! Started with DeNoise and then went to Topaz.
