We have term limits. It's called the vote. Exercise it on a regular basis, and you will end career politicians. Laziness has caused many, if not most, of our problems. We need statesmen, not politicians; and if you cannot see the distinction, you are part of the problem. Also, when you go wagging that finger at someone, remember there are 3 more pointing back at you.

With all due respect, I totally disagree with you on this.

What exactly is it that you disagree with?

Regular and judicious use of your vote to limit how often someone is elected...

or laziness in just accepting the status quo, vote the party line, thinking your vote doesn't make a difference, not being aware of just what the issues are...

knowing the difference between a politician (...a seeker or holder of public office, who is more concerned about winning favor or retaining power than about maintaining principles...) and a statesman (...a person who exhibits great wisdom and ability in directing the affairs of a government or in dealing with important public issues...)...

or, when pointing a finger at me, 3 of your own fingers are curled back pointing at you...

First, I do vote. It gives me the right to complain :D I am just saying that I think there should be term limits.

Perhaps something that we all can agree on is the need for voter identification at the polls. Unfortunately, here in Washington, all voting is done by mail and there is no way to verify who actually does the voting.

very good PalePictures. You play a good word tune as your son pays a tough 12 string.

I just spent a day as a Learning Facilitator (sub) in American history... oops the lesson was on the late 1800s,, the arguments were the same as today regarding econ and regulations and tax... well things were not so good for the working person then and they are getting worse now and the rep are trimming back votes rights and union rights... when gov is run by a few we are in serious non-reversible trouble. Beware of the Pseudo-Theocratic Oligarchy.

So many want to go back to the ol days,,, hay,, look forward and plan for 100+ in the future. Your son's world is not mine or yours or that of 200 Y ago. It is a dynamic techno world fast moving and competitive world wide,,, we must let go of good ol days and plan actively for the future. Hang on to the good parts you outlined PalePictures.

I spent a year in Argentina,, I saw their infrastructure crumbled from the wonder-days of 1940's when they were rich and then there was a Prez who stole the $ with the church and the army,,, and then dictatorship,, a bad news 70-80s, bankruptcy in the early 2000s, now with prez Christina (the beautiful) the $ are accumulating, she is planning ahead ,, looking out for the people,,,viva Christina. Check her out ,, beautiful, smart and very powerful. Argentina will prosper again.

We are engaged in a war to determine if this nation or any nation so conceived,,, wait a minute,, that is the Gettysburg Address and we need not be engaged in ANY war,, worthless distracting fruitless adventure and if we continue we can not long endure. It has been local police, FBI, Interpol, CIA, and citizen observation etc that has stopped terrorist misadventures around the world,, it has been the wars that has generated more.

Lets have a good secure prospering world for your son and my grand children. Photograph well, don d/p

I can agree with both sides at times. I'm a little more classically liberal I guess. Don't much care for Taxes or war. I have read a few books in my day. Frederick Hyak "The Road to sefdom" he was cowinner of the noble prize.

I agree. I don't care to much for war or taxes. I guess I'm a little more classically liberal aka Libertarian. I guess I'm one of those nut cases people talk about. I'm in good company. I wouldn't have put my but on the line for and ideal like the founders. Hey George wasn't so bad. First utopia I find I'm moving. All in all its the best system we've got. I tend to follow the chicago school as far as economics are concerned i.e. Fredrick Hayek "The Road to serfdom", Ludwig von Mises(Human Treatise) and Milton Friendman "Free to choose" My view of democracy was more shaped by Detoqueville(I spelled that wrong) "Democracy in America".
I surely don't think libertarian thought works with the "Environment". I also don't view people as evil because they don't agree with my thought process.
Some of these threads seem like they need a psychiatrist for some to get counseling.
All in all its fun. Great forum with great people.
These threads are a nice diversion from picture posting.
I even like the occasional nut case. Makes me glad I'm me -- not that I need any help in that area.

I spend early yers in journalism as a photographer and learn to keep my political views private but once I got a job with a strong Democratic base that helped to elect the top dogs from Roosevelt through Carter and ended up with a boss who hated my guts as a black a Viet Vet and Dem while he stared at me I stared back at picture of Dick Nixon on the wall. I fouynd out that politics is a wild dog that will attack you from either side and don,t care who it bites.

"politics is a wild dog that will attack you from either side and don,t care who it bites." Good phrase turned, I like that sound and meaning.

Religion is the same. Nixon? I voted for him, can praise him for the good, feel sorry for the way he went. So, I vote for the particular man, not necessarily for the party, to in today's atmosphere one has gone ashtray (ashes of what it useta be).

There was civility before Trump!

Civility is gone from the national character. Now, we just threaten each other with violence or death. No one is listening, no one wants a dialogue. It's just hate and anger and fear mongering. It's ugly and I want no part of it.

Agree, the last time both parties put the greater good of the nation ahead of their agendas was in the Eighties...
