My Opinion on Politics and two cents won't buy you anything! But here goes anyway!

Eons ago, when I was a 19 year old pup, in the military, off duty, while walking on the Board Walk in Jersey, I was randomly stopped by a reporter. The reporter asked this young pup, "Why do so many Americans fail to vote". Without hesitation this young pup whipped "Americans are sick and tired of choosing the lessor of two evils!" The next day while back on duty and on base, I was reprimanded for making a political statement!!! That is why I try NOT to talk about POLITICS!

It used to be possible to find common ground, but everything seems so angry nowadays. I don't know what happened, but we lost civility somewhere. So it's just easier to avoid it.

I don't talk politics or religion for that reason. Better to be a lover, than to be a fighter.

OPINION - POLITICS:

Good morning early-birds! I stumbled onto this thread. I just felt like putting my two-cents in if you don't mind.

Society has taken a turn for the worse... too many of us have been tainted by the younger generation's disrespect and in your face attitude! It is perpetuated in the news, television, sports, religion, POLITICS, and the list goes on! We have been influenced by a group that can't stand tall on their own so they cut others down to create an illusion that they themselves are standing tall and know it all. I know it sounds cynical but this lack of respect has been on the rise for years. It saddens me to see our country/society being pulled down to its knees. I just hope that there will be a leader that can take the reins and lead us back onto the trail to civility, respect, and kindness that use to be the norm. That is one man's opinion.

I hate to throw water on the fire, but no matter who is elected, he/she will be the person in that particular party that will "toe the party line" better than all the others. Party lines have turned into what's best for the party, rather than what's best for the country and the citizens.

These people are not chosen to lead the country out of the mess, rather, they are chosen (by their parties) to make any and all changes that will allow said party to gain more and more control.

Right now, one party is doing almost nothing to help the country, rather, they are doing all they can to undermine and stop the attempts by the other party to get us on the right track.

It's not going to change until we actually throw out both parties and elect some independents that have good ideas and intentions. I say, clean house and start over.

I won't say much as I've learned my lesson on just mentioning the word Re...............an word. I just know I'm fed up with our government and our citizens fighting each other to gain control of "their" agenda.

Gone are the days when one party gave way to a winning opponent and immediately the country get behind their duly elected official. Now the plot to cause our ruling leader to fail starts on his first day in office.

I fear for the role the United States will play in the world if we can't get our act together soon. Every great civilization in history fell because of internal corruption. Is that our fate?

And gone are the days when we could agree too disagree. LONG gone are the days when either party will put the greater good of the nation they claim to serve over their party agendas. That is why I don't want to talk about it.

Civility is gone from the national character. Now, we just threaten each other with violence or death. No one is listening, no one wants a dialogue. It's just hate and anger and fear mongering. It's ugly and I want no part of it.

Politics - the art or science of government (Websters #1)

In government, you have the "governor" and the "governee" (yes yes, I made that up). lol

We currently have good and bad US "governors": (The President, the Congressmen & Senators, and the Supreme Court Justices)

The president elected into office is voted in by the electoral college (each state votes for electors).
The Congressmen and Senators are voted in by their state.
The Supreme Court Justices are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate.

Ultimately, all those governing the people are voted in by the public. The public vote may be swayed by the media, by gossip, by self-observation, etc. However, ultimately, the voter votes with their belief.

There are those that want to have bigger government and there are those that want smaller government.

Vote as your heart desire. Just remember that those who govern you will govern according to THEIR own moral values and will pass laws accordingly.

The belief that morality should not be legislated is wrong. Morality is the only thing that is legislated.

We deserve who we get to govern us (good or bad).

The sentiments expressed above are not new. They have been leveled at our government since revolutionary times. If you think civility in Washington has been lost, think back to the duels to the death, fistfights and vicious name-calling that was the norm in various periods of our history. So don't despair.

I have my own views, and some are rather strongly held, but I will resist the temptation to attribute evil or ulterior motives to those who disagree with me. To that extent I disagree with PhotoGeezer.

There are many very fine people in Congress on both sides of the aisle, who may disagree on what is best for our country but do so with good character, and neither party is free of charlatans, demagogues, crooks and perverts. Our job is to "out" the latter and re-elect the former. Not easy, but certainly doable.

For the record. I tend to agree with the founders up until after about lincoln.

"For those that would sacrifice there freedom for security will have neither freedom nor security." Paraphrased Benjamin Franklin.

"You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong" Abraham Lincoln

We shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. We shall restrain men from injuring one another. This is the sum of good government." Paraphrased Thomas jefferson

"Things may come to those who wait but only what's left by those who hustle" Abraham Lincoln

"If I had six hours to cut down a tree I would spend four hours sharpening my Axe" Abraham Lincoln.

And a few more modern sane pseudo intellectuals.

"A free man will ask neither what his country can do for him nor what he can do for his country" "Milton Freedman" Free to Choose

"History doesn't repeat itself it just rhymes." Mark Twain

"Its not that people don't know they know so much that just ain't so." Anonymous
