36 CFR 5.5 - Commercial photography.
(b) Still photography. The taking of photographs of any vehicle, or other articles of commerce or models for the purpose of commercial advertising without a written permit from the Superintendent is prohibited.
? Articles of commerce?
That should cover it. Thanks, I had totally let the CFRs fly out of my head.

I think the wrappers kind of disappeared, for the most part.

Bing (microsoft) has a photo contest of National parks. Have the restrictions on commercial (?) photography changed? There is no mention of restrictions in the rules: http://bingrewards.icgrouplp.com/Content/Documents/Parks_Photo_Contest_Official_Rules.pdf

If you are a pro, as you indicate you are, then you are a poor example of one. A PRO does there homework, takes no chances, calls ahead to check on permission and requirements. Anyone who comes here and asks for info that you are asking for is not a commercial photographer. Or, your a want to be, which is worse.

He never indicated he was a pro, so no reason for insults. One of his questions was if you are shooting for a prize and the photo is then used commercially, would you be shooting as a pro.

They might have restrictions on the "HOT Models"? I guess it all depends on how HOT...

Commercial is pro, either way money is involved, and copywriting, model releasing, etc. Still requires investigation on HIS part, which, according to his post, he is unable to do.

Read the CFR wording. Money involved does not enter into the definition. It concerns photographing objects for sale in advertising with the National Park setting.

So he asked for help to which you replied with insults.

You are the one who needs to investigate before making wild guesses as to what the regulation is/means. Sorry for being blunt, but some people sure come up with wild notions without knowing anything about what they are talking about.

It still requires him to make PERSONAL inquiring on his part, not ours. This is my point.

He must make the inquiries. It is not up to us.

It requires him to take some initiative. Not us.

He did once he had a source. Lighten up!

He asked for help, and as far as I'm concerned that is no crime, nor breach of normal etiquette.

No, the easy way out is not a breach of normal etiquette. And laziness is not a crime, you are correct, I completely agree with your post.
