I have not had time to tackle Lightroom yet and was looking for some help. My tennis team won the city championship in the 65 years old division .And of course took photos. One member was not present and was able to get a photo of him later. What I would like to to do is add him to the group photo . He is the tall guy in the white shirt. If someone could add him to the group photo it would be much appreciated because everyone is asking me for the winning team photo.

You posted your version about 2 min before mine Bob. Looks like we were on the same track. I wasn't sure how big I needed to make the "Big Guy" to be. Good job Bob.  Jim

I thought big guy would look good on the left side, but then realized that he dwarfs the guy in the green shirt on the other photo and that he looks too small in front and probably unnatural if enlarged (2nd photo) I then but him behind in the same spot. I thought about right corner like the other two attempts, but I was concerned about the shadows over there. As it turns out, I think that is the best spot for him.

Hi, Jim, same back to you. I had pretty much the same issue. Originally, I had hoped one of the guys in the second picture was also in the first. No luck there, so it was a guess.

Bill, I can't speak for Jim, but I'm guessing he and I used pretty much the same technique. I removed the guy from the second photo and simply placed him over the group photo in which he was missing.

Compositionally, he fit better on the viewer's right side of the photo due to the way he was turned. The issue was trying to decide how tall he is with respect to the other guys in the first photo.

After I placed him in the photo, I then erased the portion of him that would be hidden by the guy who appears in front of him. Then I did a bit of brightening and contrast adjustment to "fit" that of the original photo.

That is the part I didn't figure out. I was guessing you put the group on top of the tall guy somehow.

Thanks!

Isn't the "guy in the middle" in the 2nd photo ... the "guy on the left" in 1st photo.

Possibly, but the different shirt inspired me to overlook that.

I did it about the same as Bob. I used Photoshop all the way. When using Photoshop you can go about doing the same things but in different ways. Our way is usually the most common way for us not always the quickest way.
1) I opened both pictures into photoshop separately.
2) Big guy (BG) used the magic wand and selected him. Copied him and went to group picture and pasted.
3) Had to decide how big he should be. I looked at the knees and thought most everyone has about the same size knees and made BG the proper size with command T using transform and made him larger clicking a corner while holding shift key and pulling out.
4) Now that I had him about the right size I changed my BG layer opacity to about 45. I could now see both pictures and tried moving BG around to see how he best fit in and as you can see we both thought on the right. Returned opacity to 100%
5) Now having decided that I used the magic wand tool and selected most of the area that he would be in on the group picture and made a mask.
6) Make sure your group picture is unlocked. Move BG layer to bottom of layers. Now with the move tool move BG till you have him in place where you think appropriate. I had a hard time deciding if I should turn him a little counter clockwise but decided against it because his legs looked off.
7) Now cleaned up mask on group picture around BG. Done.

I am sure this is basic stuff for many Hogs but hope it helped some beginners with layers and masks. I learned the most from lessons on CreativeLive.com

What ever picture you choose you might want to twist and crop. I just tried it. This is a 14 x 10 or 5 x 7 format.
