The new Olympus 300mm f4 has IS and works in conjunction with the IBIS. As I understand it though, the IS will not work with the Panasonic IBIS in the GX 8.

Beagleman - that was a defective gh3. You can mix and match ANY Panasonic body/lens with ANY Olympus body/lens

Let me share my recent experience, FWIW: I was trying to get into Micro 4/3rds but the local camera store did not have the E-M1. I studied and researched and on the basis of the much easier to navigate Panasonic menu, I got a Panasonic GH3 which was a very good price since it had been superceded by newer models. I ordered the Panasonic 12-35 f/2.8 and I already had the Oly 45 f/1.8. When I got the GH3, the Olympus lens just WOULD NOT install on the GH3. It would turn part way, but not all the way. The 12-35 wasn't much better but I could get it in place with considerable effort. So, finally I returned both the camera and lens. I took the Oly 45/f1.8 to a camera store and woola, the Oly fit on Oly cameras just fine! So, even though the GX8 looked tempting, I didn't risk getting into the same mess again and having to do more returns...I bought an Olympus E-M10 II and am happy so far (except for lack of a good grip.) In the meantime I got the Panasonic 35-100 f/4-5.6 and it works fine on the Olympus. Maybe I just got a freak GH3, but I wonder about Oly lenses on Panny cameras. So if you can handle the GX8 before purchase, try a couple of Oly lenses on it to be sure.

I don't know how to check, but I read that they delayed the 300mm lens to incorporate IS so that it would work on Panasonic cameras. The idea was that Olympus would have more customers for the lens if it would work well on both Panasonic and Olympus bodies.

You really need to read Daniel Cox's article. It was his love of the GX8 that caused me to upgrade from GX7 to the 8. The GX8 with the Lumix 35-100 1.7(I'm sure that you know that 35-100 is really 70-200 in 4/3 speak) is like putty in my hand, especially with the menu setting of Constant Preview.
Bill (who suggested Daniel Cox's article) even gave me a hint that my slow 100-300 4.0-5.6 (200-600) has a sweet spot at 6.3. A little bit of sun or an ISO boast that lens can do nice things. Before I purchased the 35-100 I tried the Oly ?-150. It was really nice too but you have to remember that the Oly lens + Lumix camera doesn't allow the camera to use the stabilization between lens and camera. I have read that and the sales man in the camera shop said that also.
I'm still wet behind the ears as cameras come but just wanted to share what I have learned about the GX8.

Glad to hear you are happy with your Gx8. But which lens are you using with it? I don't see a 35-100 f 1.7 but I do see the same with a f 2.8 lens and then the same lens focal length but a slower lens.

Bill, you are reading a lot of miss info. Oly is not making anything compatible with Panny and vice versa as far as IS is concerned. The reason for the IS in the 300mm f4 is so that you can handhold it with the 5 axis IS in body. At longer lengths, IBIS is not as effective as lens based IS. The lens is already shipping. Here is a link for you to see some shots with it - Keep an eye on "Bobbytan" he is the total package. both behind the camera and the computer.

I am sure she means the 35-100 2.8 zoom, unless the non pro version but that is slower.

The GX8 in body IS works with Oly lenses.

If you are picking lenses for the GX8, there are only a few that take advantage of the weather sealing. It takes some reading of Panasonic spec sheets. If you use a lens that is not weather sealed, the GX8 won't be either. Of course it won't matter if you stay dry!

Bill, that is true for EVERY weather sealed camera, no matter how expansive. You make it sound like Panasonic is the only manufacturer who has that issue.

The good thing is that both M4/3 brand weather sealed gear IS weather sealed. You can't say that about the Sony FF A series cameras.

I have a GX8 and it works beautifully with my 7-14mm Olympus lens. I do not get dual IS of course because the Oly lens has no IS, but you don't really need IS at all with a lens that wide. I also have the 20mm f1.7, 12-35 f2.8, 14-140, and 100-300. My only complaint about any of them is the relatively slow AF on the 100-300 and 14-140. I'm hoping the 100-400 will be faster as I am hoping to be able to dump my Nikon D750 and Tamron 150-600 birding kit.

You're absolutely right. It should've been 2.8.

I had to hold myself back! No lie. The Oly 75mm on either the E-M1 or the GX8 will change your life. It's THAT good! :D

Yes... it's the G 35-100 f2.8. Excellent lens.
