Has anyone successfully printed on canvas with a Canon Pro 100 Printer? If so, what type of canvas is best and where to you get it?

I use a Pro-10 which I think is the same as the 100 except dye vs pigment ink.

Red River Blanco Matte Canvas is real poly/cotton woven canvas and prints beautifully. 18 mil thickness, 360 gsm, use your manual feed tray and in the printer properties menu go to Maintenance>Custom Settings>Prevent paper abrasion.That will slightly raise your print heads for thicker media. And the price is right. Costs less than some paper "canvas" that doesn't have near the texture.

Thanks Oddjobber, that is good information. to what did you set the paper type in your print set-up? I don't know how similar the Pro 10 is to the Pro 100 but I think I'll wait until someone indicates that they have successfully done this on a Pro 100.

On its web site, Red River Paper will provide the information you need @ printers that are best for their papers. They are also very helpful on the phone. Give them a call and you should have the answers you're looking for. I have always found their advice helpful and accurate. If it isn't going to work well, they will tell you so. Best of luck.

All of the major paper companies produce canvas for inkjet printers. Red River is certainly good, and I have tried it, but Moab and Hahnemuhle also make very nice inkjet canvas. Moab is generally in the same price range as Red River. The Hahnemuhle papers are much more expensive, but despite that, are my favorite. As was mentioned, the paper manufacturers will have ICC profiles available for download on their website. DO use them. They will help you get the best prints.

I called Red River and the girl in Customer Support said that they have not had any negative reports about using their Blanco Matt Canvas in a Canon Pro-100 printer.

She also said that there should be very little difference between using their ICC profile for the canvas or using the matt setting I the print set-up menu. Also to go into Maintenance and indicate thick paper to keep the print head from scrubbing on the top surface. She also recommended that the surface should be sealed.

I acquired a couple of sheets of Red River Blanco Matt Canvas and tried it on a picture that I thought would look good on canvas. It was a somber moody picture which lacked contrast. The print only exaggerated those qualities, looked muddy and I was disappointed. I brightened the picture up a little in Photoshop and tried again but it was the same, only lighter. (I don't have any sealant so I don't know if it will improve the contrast.) So I have come to the conclusion that the picture must be snappy, colorful and have good contrast in order for the canvas to do it justice.

I was pleased that the printer handled the canvas well and I will order a box of 13X19 Red River Blanco Matt Canvas and I will download the ICC profile.

I will also try a gallery wrap. I will not crop the picture too tightly as I will lose about three inches of the length and width and wind up with a picture which is only about 10x16. I wish there were some way around that as I would like a larger picture. I know that I could get it printed by someone with a larger printer but I am one who has to do it himself.

I was doing some printing this morning and thought that I would try Canon Fine Art Premium Matte for the first time. Boy, does it ever do a nice job on a portrait.

When I was going through the print menu for paper I selected fine art and there was a dropdown menu for several fine art papers and at the bottom it said CANVAS. I had never seen it before because it was hidden in the Fine Art category. I haven't tried it but I thought you might be interested. If anyone tries it let us know your results.

Yes and no. As far as I can tell you have two choices.

(1) Even after you select canvas you have to go to the maintenance menu and select "prevent paper abrasion". That's because canvas media are not all thick.
(2) you can go to Devices and Printers (Using Windows here, don't know about MAC) and set the properties of your printer to prevent paper abrasion and save it as default. Equally bad since it will always print with the heads raised resulting in a slight loss of sharpness. So you have to go to the maintenance menu and manually unselect that item each time you use thinner media.

So.... back to square 1. :| :D

BTW, another thing that didn't work for me (YMMV): I went to Devices and Printers>Add a Printer. The computer searches for attached printers, you select the Pro-10 or Pro-100 and there will be two versions Pro-XXX Original and Pro-XXX Copy.Those will both appear as selectable items when the Canon print program is opened.

Unfortunately, those two items are linked and changing the default settings for either changes them both. So, once again, back to square one, version 2. :lol:
