If they want to charge for the repair, I recommend that you ask nicely for them to consider that the warranty only recently expired and you feel such a failure is uncommon and should be covered. Can't hurt to ask - this has worked for me in the past.
I agree, I have saved some cash up just in case. I did see a few people on Canon's forum saying it cost around $200.00 to get it repaired. I am interested in asking what was the cause of it, considering it was adult owned and and not abused.

I opened a chat window with a canon rep today, they pulled up my repair and said the PCB board is damaged but there was no estimate with it. I was told I would be contacted by email soon,so i'm still waiting.
Exactly the failure my 70D experienced, as noted in my previous post response.

I think there has been quite a few of them, I want to know what caused it. I hope they offer some warranty time on this repair too.
Wonder if they changed their manufacturing process or location before these problems started showing up.

I hope this PCB problem doesn't affect the 60D, which is what I have.
I still never received anything back from Canon. I sent it in Monday the 2nd, They signed for it Friday the 5th. The only update I received from Canon was it was being evaluated. That is what I get when I track my repair through their site. I would not have known anything about the PCB damaged if I didn't open a live chat on their site. Is this normal for them? Maybe I am just anxious to get it back,I was expecting to receive email updates frequently and the process to move along a little faster. My son Dylan lent me his T3i,it really makes me miss my 70d,I fumbled with the controls and I can't tell you how many times I have touched that poor screen on it.I am still happy to have that while mine is being repaired.

Apart from the screen, are T3i controls much different from 70D controls??

The whole layout is different, I have big hands to me the T3i just feels so small. I had a 30d before my 70d these body's just feel right in my hands.Once I played with the T3i I was able to use it fine and had no problems with the settings. Just different and I am spoiled :)

I am one of those who prefers a small camera; the less space it takes up the better, but apart from size, you say "the layout is different". That is what kind of surprised me. I had a Rebel at one time, and when I would try a newer Rebel at a big box store, the controls were virtually identical to what I was already used to; I wasn't aware the more expensive Canon cameras had different layouts. After I left Canon, I got two Pentax cameras, a K-30 (roughly comparable to a Rebel) and a small MILC Q-7. The K-30 has more controls than the Q-7 does, but the controls they have in common are virtually identical, so learning the K-30 (I got the Q-7 before the Rebel died) was trivial once I had learned the Q-7. I have been assuming that all cameras of one line have virtually identical controls.

My first camera was a rebel 300d, I learnt a lot with it. After many photos with it, the shutter died. I hit Craig's list and picked up a used 30D . I fell in love with it after a couple years of using it I moved up to my 70d. The 30d's image sensor was dated and it did not do well in lower light. It lacked many of the features the newer cameras had.
Here it is 13 days after sending it in to Canon still no estimate. I am not impressed with their customer service. I have had 2 live chats and one phone call. I keep getting the same answer the estimate isn't posted yet, Just seems to be taking a long time.

That is taking awhile. Mine was repaired almost in that time, the estimate only took a couple days after they received it. But that was almost a year ago.

They signed for it on the 5th so I figured I would have a estimate by now. I am heading to Tennessee this weekend, I wish I had it along.

I've had quite a mixed experience with Canon customer service. When I called in to the national service center in NJ, I felt treated like crap--I'll never do business with that outfit. So I drove to the service center in Irvine, CA and it was like night and day: all my problems were addressed in a professional and friendly manner--I felt like a valued customer.
There's something rotten in Jersey, and Canon USA needs to root out that evil.
