Purchased Lightroom 3 from B&H for $69 Feb 22 and just got the order for my free upgrade download today... a little more than 30 days after I applied to Adobe. I know some said Adobe denied their request saying "... you already got a discounted price". Don't give up... appeal if necessary.

Interesting, where do you go to apply for a free upgrade and is there a time limit on when you bought LR3 to when you apply?

From Adobe websie:

You might be eligible for a complimentary upgrade if you bought your software product (full or upgrade) soon after a new version was announced. To find out if your purchase falls in the eligibility period, contact Adobe to chat with an agent (English only). For other languages, select an option from the Need A Different Country Or Region menu.

Thanks, but as we bought ours about a year ago, I think we've missed out.

i have lightroom 4 being delivered any day now. Does lightroom 4 copy over version 3 or do we have to delete version 3 before we install it, or when it installs will i have 2 version of the program on the computer.

Perhaps someone else can answer that question. I have the authorization to download LR4 but haven't done so yet.... haven't even loaded my retail version of LR3 yet.... too busy.

Lightroom 4 installs beside LR3. However, I found that LR3 cannot use the catalog once it converts to LR4. I use an old backup of the catalog for LR3. The only problem with LR4 is speed. It's very slow.

Not having yet used either LR3 or LR4, if LR4 is very slow why shouldn't I just load my retail version of LR3 and disregard my free LR4 upgrade?

That was my first thought. However, after using them both for awhile, I've found that I have accepted the speed with LR4. I prefer the tools and Soft Proofing in the Develop Module. I found Lightroom to have a steep learning curve. I now use LR for most of my PP. Adobe is aware of the speed problem and will probably have an update out soon.

I use two drives for Lion… one for the usual junk and the other
in a 250G SSD for editing and photo work only. That’’ll
speed up your Lightroom work!
