RM, relax..., it's probably just a Yongnuo masquerading as a Canon!!!
As long as it did not cost more than $99 you probably got your monies worth!

I actually thought of that since Yonguno has their own version of the 600 EX-RT. I was going to buy one but came across a "good deal" on a Canon unit. The seller had a good feedback score and claimed several units sold so I bought it. Should have bought the Yonguno flash.

I have gotten my money back on ebay using paypal. No hassles.

It was past the 6 month window when I discovered the unit wasn't really Canon. eBay politely said sorry, too late. PayPal didn't refund the whole cost but they did credit my account $200 since I'm such a "good user". With the credit, I probably paid close to what the unit's actually worth.

RM, actually, very sorry about your misfortune! I guess the real problem is that you have NO idea what you actually have and that makes it a bit of as throw-away. If you can't return it, lets just cross our fingers and hope it keeps on ticking. But anybody that's unscrupulous enough to produce a fake is probably not all that concerned with reliability either. Hope you eventually get your Canon 600. I have one and it's a beautiful piece of equipment! Good luck. ;-)

To find out the seller on eBay that you purchased your fake speedlite, sign-in to the account where you purchased this item. Then go to the folder 'purchases'. You can check your previous purchases. Click on the time frame that seems correct. You should be able to see who it was that sold you the fake. I would guess that they would still have to be 'sellers on eBay' for this to work. A seller can be locked out from eBay for less than honest dealings. Seems to reason that if they have been caught, they can no longer be active sellers.

Has anyone else besides me discovered their Canon 600 EX-RT Speedlite is counterfeit?

Ebay has a buyer protection policy. File a claim and you will probably get a refund from them.

I bought it from an eBay store, don't recall the name but lesson learned there. I came in a legit looking Canon box with legit looking Canon paperwork and forms and manual.

I discovered it fake when I was reading the manual and playing with the custom settings. What was coming up on the units screen was not what was in the manual. I contacted Canon and they said its a counterfeit. Almost identical to the real flash but not exact.

Thanks for the "heads-up". Hard to know these days what is real it seems.

You can get screwed anywhere and any when. Some people get screwed every week. Sorry for your experience, but that doesn't actually help in this situation. We may be able to help the OP get his money back.

I have bought over 2,000 items on eBay--I have had a problem two times-eBay refunded my money both times instantly--they, eBay, guarantees 100% that you will get what the seller says it is--you have nothing to worry about

I've got two 600EX-RT Speedlites but luckily I bought them both directly from Canon (refurb) so pretty confident mine are authentic.
