Has anyone else besides me discovered their Canon 600 EX-RT Speedlite is counterfeit?

Canon has discovered that they are out there and has released information about that: http://petapixel.com/2015/06/25/canon-warns-of-fake-600ex-rt-flashes-here-are-the-telltale-signs/

Hope you can get it resolved...

I bought it from an eBay store, don't recall the name but lesson learned there. I came in a legit looking Canon box with legit looking Canon paperwork and forms and manual.

I discovered it fake when I was reading the manual and playing with the custom settings. What was coming up on the units screen was not what was in the manual. I contacted Canon and they said its a counterfeit. Almost identical to the real flash but not exact.

How long ago did you buy it and do you still have the online description? If in the recent past and if the item description stated Canon or genuine Canon and so on, i.e. was misrepresented you should be able to get a full refund. Ebay is pretty good about policing this kind of thing.

You can get screwed anywhere and any when. Some people get screwed every week. Sorry for your experience, but that doesn't actually help in this situation. We may be able to help the OP get his money back.

People should go to jail for knowingly selling counterfeit products. After all, you or I would if we paid for a product with counterfeit money.

That is probably not a helpful comment, and I hope you can get it resolved.

It appears to work fine. I haven't used the RF wireless so I don't know if that works. Other than custom settings, it appears to adhere to the manual. No problem using flash unit controls or camera menu settings. Zoom functions work as expected and ETTL appears to work fine.

RM, relax..., it's probably just a Yongnuo masquerading as a Canon!!!
As long as it did not cost more than $99 you probably got your monies worth!

I don't know if the seller really knew it was a clone. The packaging and documentation and even warranty card look real. A friend has one, not a clone, and the box and manual and documents in the box all look alike. Had I registered it right away like I do with camera body's and lenses, I'd have known, but I didn't. Another lesson learned.
